Need 8.8 info

hey everyone

does anyone know off hand the diffrence in length of a 94-98 8.8" rear and 99 to 04 rear end? I am converting my V6 to a V8 and I would like to know if I can get away with using a SN95's 8.8, for that matter I also heard the 8.8 used in the lincoln mark VII LSC was wider than the fox mustangs, anyone know if the width would be close to what I need cause those would be cheap to come by

thanks

What kind of car do you have?

94-98 rears are wider then a foxes rear by about an inch the 99 and up rear is even wider then that by an inch.are you looking to put an 8.8 in a classic stang? if so what year?

This is the only reply that is correct. As the years go up the width gets longer.

Sorry to hijack, but will a 99+ 8.8" bolt into an '94 suspension wise?

If so, I may pick up a 99+ rear to put gears in so that I can swap them and not need wheel spacers for the look.

Oops forgot to mention....

Hi everyone,

sorry I forgot to mention, my car is a 2000, so yea I had read the same conflicting info about 99+ 8.8" rears being wider than the 94-98, and the fact that in the FRPP catalog it lists the rear being good from 79-98. My main prob is that V8 stangs turn up rarely in the junkyards around here (south western ontario canada) and the ones that do are usually fox chassis cars. Does anyone know about the disc brake 8.8 that Lincoln Mark VII LSC's have in terms of compatabilty? if the length is close couldnt I just change the control arms for mustang ones and bolt it in since suspension wise they should have the same attachment points?

thanks for the help

A 99-04 8.8 will bolt right up to a 94-98 body. The 99-04 axle is about 1/2" longer overall than the 94-98 axle. IT may stick out a little, but it won't be a big deal.

I don't know if the MArk vii will work or not. I know they look close to the mustang 8.8. I have never heard of anybody using them, but I am not saying it cannot be done. Around here the FOX body axles are getting rare.
