Need a big favor from my fellow gear heads

Can someone, or better, some people do this test on their rear axle please? If someone has a recently rebuilt diff, it would be great.

1. Jack up the rear axle of your Mustang
2. Put the tranny in neutral
3. Grab one wheel and hold it or put a block under it so it doesn't spin
4. Try to spin the other wheel

How easy or hard was it to make the other wheel spin? On my car, it's not free spinning but I can do it fairly easy. I don't know what the torque bias is in the trac-lok but it feels really low. My car lays two black strips on burnouts but it doesn't feel like it's pulling from both wheels when it should be (on straight line acceleration)

If someone can do this test, I would be very appreciative.

i have a brand new 03 cobra trac lock and i will have my car on the lift on tuesday if you can wait that long.

Bimmertech - It would be awesome if you can do that test with your old diff and then after you put eh '03 Cobra diff in to see what the difference is.

sorry man, but the new diff has been installed for a few months now.

On my car I can tourque my lugnuts to 105 ft/lb doing this and occasionally I will get jsut a little bit of rotation so I would say that is where mine gives up.

As for yours have you tried changing the lubricant? This really helped mine out as well as some others.

94-302-vert - That's good information, thanks a lot. I did change my fluid about two months ago. I'll do the torque wrench test on mine today and see where it stands. Who knows, my trac-lok may be just fine and dandy. It's been a major headache to get any kind quantifiable measure of its condition. Seems like the only way to know for sure is if it does a one-wheel burnout.

You are absolutely right.. if it doesn't do that you should be OK... Now if you are looking to change gear ratio's anytime soon it is the optimal time to rebuild it if you have the $$. I didn't as I was short on $$ at the time.
