Friday night i was out driving on the highway and decided to see how fast i could go. So i put the hammer down and buried the speedo. When I slowed down I heard a loud knocking noise. The next day I sent it to the shop and he looked it over. He adjusted all the rockers and everthing in the valvetrian and the knock was still there. He said it was something in the bottom end. So instead of fixing it I'm just going to buy a 331 stroker shortblock. I need help on were to buy from either DSS or CHP. Has anyone heard anything bad about these companies? Has anyone used there shortblocks?

first off i highly doubt you were going 160mph. pretty sure your car with the 3.73 gears tops out before that. and not even going to get into why going that fast on public roads is STUPID! other than that your prolly pushed the car hard as it could go in 5th gear with a worn shortblock and have a rod knock now. if you want to go stroker route and choose a 331 DSS and CHP will both be good choices. either shortblock you will be happy with and your going to need to upgrade your stock heads, your small cam, and intake manifold to benifit from the extra cubes. id buy the long block and sell the parts you got.

Click the link in my sig and have Rick build you a n/a 347. Don't give up the FREE cubes. If you aren't serious, don't bother talking to him.

Do a compression test. You may have bent a valve.

There is a Mustang builder around here that swears by DSS. Him and his son both use DSS short blocks. If I remember correctly he told me that they have 4 piston machines that cost 1.5 million a piece! I've never heard a bad thing about DSS and with all the building Kevin does I would say go that route. However, I don't know very much about the other company and they could be very reputable as well. I just can vouch for DSS, good stuff.

DSS was extremely honest and accurate with me over the phone. They communicated very well, and any time I needed to talk to someone, I was able to. I dealt with Nick mostly and he was awesome!

They told me 3 weeks to build/ship and that is exactly how long it took.

my experience was great with chp. so was everyone else that i know that dealt with them. what daniel was saying was that the 165's and e303 will not let you see the full potential of the 331.

DSS was great. we talked alot about my combo before i purchased the 331. They had some good deals on supporting hardware like oil pump/pan.

165s will work, they are just smaller than what i would like to see out of a 331. The e303 is crap in the first place, get something else while they are building it.
