Need Advice on Security Issue

Recently I lost one of my key fobs, not the ignition key itself, just the fob. As my mustang has been sitting peacefully in her garage, I could hear the security system beep, then someone triggered the alarm. Evidently someone in my neighborhood has the fob and was trying to figure out which car it belonged to. If I were in a nice neighborhood with nice neighbors that would be great, but the fob has still not found its way back to my place. Obviously I do not want the car accessed and things damaged or stolen. They would not have access to her unless they kick in the garage door, so I assume she is safe, unless I leave her outside. So in terms of my questions for the experts out there...

Can they somehow synch a key to the fob and turn on the ignition, or is the fob strictly for doors and trunk?

How would you handle this? I have one ignition key and one fob, and then one other ignition key in my possession, with the other fob now in someone else's control.

Do I buy another fob and get the whole thing reprogrammed? Would I be safe at that point? I do not live in a horribly crime ridden neighborhood, but it's not the nicest either. I figure if they were innocently finding the car to return it, they would have come up to the house or left it outside the garage which they have not.

If it has any bearing on your advice, I drive an '07 GT Vert. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Just reprogram your keyless entry remotes. It'll remove the offending (missing) remote from the system, rendering it useless to the person who now has it in their possession.

The procedure should be (hopefully someone will come along and correct me, if I'm wrong):

1. Cycle the ignition on/off eight times, in ten seconds, ending with the ignition in the on position
2. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the remote and your doors should lock and unlock indicating that the program was successful
3. Turn off the ignition and they should cycle once more, ending the programming mode.

You'll now only have one remote that's programmed to the system, but it sure beats someone potentially having access to the car. If you get your remote back, or a new one, just run through this procedure again, but just do the second remote immediately following the first, before turning the ignition off and completing the process.

Roger. Confirmed by owners manual. I would reprogram your remote like '95 said and then go from there...hopefully it gets returned since they are really costly to replace

They are cheap on ebay and some locksmiths.

I knew I could count on this forum! I really should start coming back here more often as this used to be a daily read for me....

Anyway, so I picked up two new OEM mustang fobs off of Ebay. So, my question now is, when I reprogram them, if I include the existing one, is it possible it will just change the new ones to match the existing one? This would of course defeat the purpose of all this. How do I know it will be something completely different? Anyone know how many possibilities there are?

The manual says that you can program up to six devices... and again with the lost one not in the group then it won't be part of the new program. If you do it right you should have three fobs that work.
