Need advice on which X-PIPE should I get...

Hello everyone, my first post.

I've owned a '95 gt stang conv since 95 and have done more dressup work, 18in rims / tires, light bar, alpine cda deck/amp with bostons, than engine work, only K&N filter and Vortex mufflers.

My mufflers make a distinct mustang sound which I love, a deep bass sound, but not enough sound I am looking for.

I want to get X-Pipes, since more sound is what I want and more torque.

Now should I go with an X-Pipe or H-Pipe off road or with cats. Without cats the pipe is around $100, with cats it goes for $350+.

A muffler place that has worked on mustangs says for me to go without cats and get the o2 sensors... he says that makes it growl like all the mustangs you hear on the road. Also he said go for the H-Pipe, but the X-Pipe I believe would be better because of equal distribution between the mufflers.. I don't know, I'm a computer programmer/technician, not a car mechanical person.

Now I want this to be louder, but not insanely loud, like twice the noise of what I'm getting now. So should I go for the non cats and save a lot of money and have the added noise (I know its illegal, but its a mustang c'mon :p gotta have that sound)?

All the info I can get will be helpful as I will be doing this, this week coming up, in time for the summer. Thanks to all who respond.

First off, WELCOME here!

Second, I dont think we could tell you what to get based on what sound you want.

It seems everyone's car is slightly different sounding, plus, it depends on headers or not and what cat backs you have....You didnt post your mods.

I have FMS shorties, Flowmaster 3 chambers, and Magnaflow X. My car is only loud when I get on it, and only from the back. It is REALLY quiet at idle and when just cruising.

We will wait for my other buds to chime in.

It's all stock, the only mods I've got are well none... lol

I have the K&N filtercharger and Vortex mufflers with the stock exhaust pipes and stock H-Pipe, stock headers.. all stock except for the filter and mufflers.

I was told to leave the stock headers in and just go for an off-road x-pipe to get better sounding exhaust.

So will that help and if so, just how loud will the off-roaders make it, like rate for me 1 being stock noise and 10 being insanely loud. Plus my heat shields are falling off, one already did and another is vibrating because of my mufflers deep sound.

People laugh when I tell them I want it louder since the car isn't really all that fast, but I also have a '00 corvette which is fast enough for me :D

But don't get me wrong, I love my mustang!

Thanks.

An offroad X pipe is definetly the way to go! I've had an X pipe and now a Prochamber and the X is much more of a sporty/aggressive sound. H pipes sound more like a truck to me.

The offroad version will be sorta like the car you hear going down the road and you are like....wow, that sounds really good!! It is quite a bit louder but typically, if you are responsible with how you get into the throttle, dont burnout or race people at lights, you would be fine. As far as it being too loud for you personally, thats something you'll just have to wait for. There are two types of Mustang fans. Those that can never have a car be too loud and those that would just assume have a fast yet "comfortable" car that is not too loud or stiff. If you are the first, you'll be fine with it.

Why mess around? Just buy a Bassani! Only around $249 for the off-road X and I swear my car sounded SOOOOOOO good back when I had the stock engine, the Bassani off-road X, and Flowmaster catback. Man.... sooo sweet!

You won't be disappointed.

I had stopped over at Ramchargers and all they carry for x-pipe is hedman. They say an x-pipe is an x-pipe, although I have read that Bassani is the best. I asked if they carry bassani and they replied, the x-pipe whether bassani or hedman will sound the same.

Anyone here heard of Hedman brand x-pipe and if so, what is it like?

Also I hear that an off-road x-pipe will improve fuel efficiency and some say it will drain my tank.. any thoughts on that as well?

they do not sound the same, the bassani has a larger 'chamber' sort of for the gases to merge, the others are just two pipes cut with notches in them and welded back together, i bought one from upr, prob not the best but sounds good to me, and was only 139$ (local speed shop)
