So i plan on building a 302 with an aod transmission. The build is going to be edelbrock e street heads along with a custom grind cam. I asked the guy who’s selling me the parts about what range the cam kicks in. He said about 2500, I was just wondering if a 2200-2600 stall converter would be ideal. Please let me know, i can try getting more info of the specs of the cam and rockers and all that.

Rpm range
Rear gear
Tire size
Car weight

The more info the better. I’m not an automatic trans person but one will be along shortly.

The stall converter i’m looking at is 2200-2600 but i’m still researching the cam
rear gear is gonna be a 4.10
tire size 250/45/17
car weighs about 3000

All of that helps but by rpm range I meant what rpm range are you looking at with the motor? You will have to know this when selecting a cam or having one custom ground.

If you are gonna run 410, you might consider going a little higher on the stall since youll be sacrificing your top end speed anyway. Curious what you are doing to that AOD

How much power do you think you'll make?

What tires do you plan to run? (The front ones matter too)

Is this street? (I assume so)

Are you planning a power adder? IF so, what kind?

This is in addition to stuff already mentioned.

Here is an article that I've referred to a couple of times to help keep the basic principal straight:

Torque Converter Basics: How To Choose Correctly?

When it comes to choosing a torque converter, many consider it Black Magic. We talk with ATI Performance and TCI Auto to clear the air.
