I recently had an X pipe put on my car, and ever since then, my car in the inside is unbearable. I know bc Im running no cats with the SLP, itd be loud, but something has to be wrong with my car. My friend rode with me and he said it is the wheel bearings. I hear no noise until I go into 3rd, and than it sounds like an airplane ready to take off, not in a good way. Can anyone help?

EDIT: Did an advanced search as well, could it possibly be a hub assebly? Dont really have a ton of cash right now, any decent replacement parts to replace and a place to order from?

If it is bearings or hub the wheel will get extremely hot, much hotter than normal. The best way to check this would be with one of those laser beam temperature devices if you have one...

Lasers...ummm.

If it's a hub it should make more noise when you go around corners/curves at constant speeds. If it makes more noise during a right hand turn, then it will be your left hub. If you turn left and it makes more noise... you get the picture.

Hubs run around $60-80 and shouldn't take you long to switch out. Just make sure you've got the right size socket for the hub retainer nut.....and a good breaker bar or impact wrench because it's torqued to 200+ft/lbs.

Couple of comments.

1) If you have an 02, I seriously doubt is the hub, but if it is, it should still be covered under warenty.

2) If you decide to DIY, don't forget you need a 200+ lb. torque wrench. I had to buy one (110 bucks) when I changed mine (98 gt)

3) Is it the front or rear? If it's the rear it could be your carrier bearings. Do you have gears installed? If this is the case it emits a pretty mean howl around 40 - 60 mph.
