I need some input on a heads, cam and intake combo that will get me into the 11's.
If I can swing the funds, I am going to change heads, cam and intake this winter....that's a BIG "if".
I'm kinda partial to Canfield heads but open for suggestions.

I'm thinking Canfields(or similiar), solid cam (245*/255* .555/.560) and vic. jr. intake.

Lets hear some suggestions!

canfield is a great head but I am familiar with the 302 base. I know you can get a stage 3 ported canfield for like 1600 or something like that. I know a 306 with ported canfields on it pushing a little over 400 to the wheels N/A.

to be honest, there are like 1200 possible combos that will equal out to 11s. Using a canfield head, a custom cam and a good vic jr intake will work perfect.

also, you could run 11s on a good suspension, very mild heads/cam and intake. You can have very little suspension mods (like me) then put together a high HP motor, but just spin your way through 1st, 2nd and third only to get a shotty time slip.

Summary: suspension is key.

I agree, a simple HCI 302 with a good driver and traction will go 11s!

It's a little more than that though 'cause you also need to consider gears, converter(if automatic) and tires to make the h/c/i combo all come together.
I could probably run high 11's now with just a head swap and uncorked headers.

someone who REALLY knows what he's doing and how to drive can hit 11's with h/c/i but that's not normally the case.

my buddy is running a stock shortblock with a custom cam, afr 185's,edelbrock rpm 2 intake, 4.10 gears, and race suspension. He's done a best of 321 to the wheels, and a best of 12.1 in the quarter.

for solid 11's, I'd suggest a stroker and the above mentioned combo or better. a simple h/c/i combo will likely net you a string of 12's and an 11 now and then IF you're good and lucky.

Exactly, with a stock block and H/c/i and all the bolt on's 12's are the norm.

I highly disagree with that. It does NOT take a stroked 351 to run solid 11's(for the average racer). My friend has a '79 mustang coupe with a a .030 351w with windsor Sr. heads, solid cam, vr.jr intake, 750dp, 4:56's and 4800 stall and he runs mid 11's with a best of 11.45@119mph
I've run a best, so far of 12.85@102mph and a 60' of 1.70 with probably still more in it. Keep in mind that's with ported '74 heads, shorty headers and 20+ year old stock suspension, 274XE cam, stealth intake, 750dp Now...add GOOD heads, longtubes and race suspension, with the SAME cam and intake and I'll bet it would damn near the 11's
Stroker motor......:rlaugh:

351: your main question was too vague.
you asked for recomendations for a h/c/i to get you into the 11s. at the time, i had not idea what was done, gears, etc etc.
your combo right now lacks power. if your only trapping at 102mph, your ET is pretty much a result of your good 60' time. I think that your lack of power comes from your heads and shorty headers. swapping to a good set of heads and set of decent long tubes will probably put you into the 11s right there.
what gears areyou running? tires?

Nate, you should know who I am. Anyhow, it's NOT lacking power...well..it is but it's not really. It's not completly dialed in yet. I'm still messing with timing and jetting to get the MPH up to where it should be (106-107mph)
It will run mid 12's when it's all said and done.
Tires are 26x9x15 M/T drag slicks and I have 4:10 gears

when I made the above post, this is from a california persons point of view, which is full safety gear of course, and FULL cali emissions legality from cats to egr to smog pump. 12's are the norm.
