I have a 92 Gt that my T-5 just died. I had a 4 cyl t-5 laying around in my garage. Just had it rebuilt by my friend that has a Transmission shop. What I need to know is about the pilot bearing. Does anyone know which one I need or part # for it? The auto parts store around here are no help. I picked up a brass bushing one that I was told that will work but the input shaft still has to much play in it. Thanks for any help you can give.

The pilot bearing you need is the one for mid 80s diesel rangers. You can get it at autozone or advance.

This should get you back on the road. Did the research myself after getting so many diff responses with so many diff part numbers, most of which were wrong. Finally took measurements and spent 2hrs going through their bearing selection. My 89 t5 is only rated like 265lbs vs. 240lbs 4cy t5. Not that big of a diff for me. 90 is when ford uppened the anti on the t5 torque. I did the exact thing you're about to do. And if anyone tells you it doesn't hold, well I've had mine in for the past 8months and it's holding - not bad for pull apart $65. But then again I baby my car with the occasional smoke show. After renting and buying "pilot bearing" removal tools which became nothing but a big waste of money. The easiest and quickest way to remove it is by carefully drilling out the bearing. Be careful not to drill into the crank, as you can see I did just a bit. Once you drill it 2,3, or 4 diff places take a screwdriver and mallet and get to work chipping it out. Attached are pics which should help. Btw the bushing is inside the bearing, just replace the entire bearing. None of this "which one? bearing or bushing crap" Go bearing! The autozone number #14672 is on the picture and you can compare measurment to the crank and diameter of the bearing, and compare the 4cyl input shaft to the bearing center hole diameter. It is right on the money, not a mm off. If you don't have a autozone in your area, go to the Napa site and do a search. An equivallent part number should show up, which would be the same part just diff number under their inventory.

I used the correct bearing, used a clutch alignment tool, but I still CANNOT get the tranny to sit in all the way. I am using a 4 cyl. T5 with e v8 bellhousing. Would that matter? How far into the crank should the bearing be? I installed mine flush to the crank face.

I don't know what could be the problem. Its sitting like a 1/2 too out.
