NEED HELP A.S.A.P ON SOME #'S

how do you tell if the engine is a roller or not from the outside? is there #'s on it stating it? or in the vin.? we are going to go look at an 84 for a donner car today and the guy say's it's all stock but the engine is a roller. what about the rearend how from the outside can we tell it's an 8.8 as well as what kind of tranny it has? peace

yeah we found that out decided not to buy today it was a 84 1/2 gt350 but beat to hell and back the only thing he had that would work for us was the tail light's so our hunt continues!!!!!! peace
