ok so i bought my new water temp gauge, mechanical, and it comes with this fitting:

the red fitting is supposed to screw into the block, and another blue fitting screws into the red, compressing the temp sensor inbetween. so i need to find another fitting that has the same female thread pattern as the blue fitting (cannot get it off the gauge, pre installed) and the same thread pattern that matches the block, male. i've been searching summitracing for a day now and i cant find anything.. it also doesnt help much when you dont know the sizes. where can i find one? i've also tried VIP auto parts store, autozone, and home depot

Seems to me that the hole in the lower intake is 3/8" NPT.

Is this an AM gauge? They seem to have the SBC fitting but not the Ford fitting. But the parts store gauge aisle should have the right one. Summit sells it also (per what folks have posted).

Good luck.

Yeah the one that comes with it is threaded for a SBC , but Summit has the fitting you need for a SBF. I had read about this on the board before and ordered the extra fitting with my gauge from summit. I bet like Hissin said though you can get the correct fitting at any parts store.

I got a bag of fittings (about 5 different sizes) for $5-10 at O'Reilly auto parts...not sure if you have them in MA, but like noted, other auto parts stores might have a variety pack of fittings.

You might consider just calling summit and asking the sales person which adapter you need for a ford 302 because it doesn't say what size the gauge piece is that you need to adapt to.

James posted what I'd do.

If you're set on having a part number ahead of time, I think JerryD has posted it before (ring a bell James? I think it was him).

Good luck.

deadlast,

Those are the correct part #s. I used the brass one when I put in my autometer mechanical temp gauge. You can usually find them at the local speed shop if they sell autometer gauges vs. ordering them from summit

ok guys, just recieved the new fitting in the mail, and its the same thing! i think we are talking about different things.

You have the ECT pictured. YOu dont want to hose with that sensor - leave it be.

The stock sending unit for the temp gauge is behind the dizzy. That's where you should put your new gauge's sender. Then you can relocate the stock sending unit to a dead port on the rear of the lower, the t-stat housing, etc.

Good luck.
