I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me in identifying the rear in my 68 coupe. At some point, a PO has added front discs and I believe this rearend. It is five-lug w/ drums.

I'm finally getting the opportunity to clear out the garage and getting ready to work on the Mustang. Any help in identifying it would be appreciated. TIA.

Thanks--I thought the 8" were oval, but couldn't remember if I was remembering wrong. I'll look for a tag on the front when I can get under the car better later this week. Where on the front would it be located?

Under one of the retaining nuts on the front. A photo of the front taken from the right side would make it WAY easier to tell if it's a 8 or 9.

The best way to tell is whether or not you can get a 9/16" socket (with the rachet on it)on the two bottom retainer nuts on the chunk. If you can, it's an 8". If not, it's a 9 inch.
Thanks, D.Hearne. I am able to get the ratchet on--answers that question easily enough. Gracias!

Thanks--I got a few pics. You can see the tag, but I don't think you can make out the numbers from the pic. It reads:
WDW AF 9DA
2.79 8(?--very faint) 551A

2.79 for the gear ratio, I understand. The 8 for 8-inch?

Thanks again, everyone, for your feedback. This is a great learning experience for me!
