I was doing a tranny filter and i found this baby floating in the pan, and was looking for help identifying what it is and where it goes. I couldnt see any obvious places that it came from.

It is a 1996 GT with an AODE.

Thanks for any help.

A dust plug is in the tranny during the assembly process. It is usually removed when the transmission pan is dropped for the first time. You can throw it away. Its all in the Haynes manual :)

This tells you that you are changing the filter for the first time since the car was built...

Although I can't see what your talking about, more than likely it's the plactic plug Ford uses to block the dipstick tube during assy.It keeps dirt from getting inside and they push it through when they install the dipstick. It's a plastic thing with an O ring around it?If so,use it as an icebreaker at parties.
