I bought a CAI on ebay, as pictured below:

I tried piecing this kit together in my apartment before putting it on my car. If you take a look at the smaller blue silicone coupler in the center of the pic, I tried slipping this coupler onto each of the pipes and it won't fit. It is just barely too small to slip onto these pipes.

Does anyone know what the purpose of this coupler is and whether it is even necessary? In the pic below from another stang, it seems they didn't use this piece:

Also, am I correct in assuming that the other coupler (reducing coupler) is used to attach the CAI pipe to the throttlebody? Is the throttlebody for a 94 Cobra a smaller size than the CAI pipe?

The kit didn't come with instructions- just want to get everything straight so I don't waste time when installing. I'm sure this would help out other people as well.

Thanks.

It's too late for you now, but I don't recommend buying the Bombz Racing CAI from eautosource(or anybody else) on ebay. I've posted that once before.

That small coupler can be made to fit, but it's a huge PITA. Your best bet is find the correct size coupler, but I really don't know where to look for one.

Eautosource actually just sent me an email requesting feedback 3 months after the auction ended. It's been so long that I can't leave feedback for it. The reason I didn't do it right away was because their ebay account was suspended right after I bought the CAI. :nonono:

it looks like a BBK knockoff, definetly worth buying a name brand.

They are pretty much the same thing. Except the BBK costs about 3-4 times more.

I have had mine for about a year and have had no trouble with it except for the first coupler popping off once. But that was cause I didnt tighten it down all the way.

The boiling water trick worked, thanks!

And thanks GreenGT for the pics, this is going to help with the installation.

And yes, never buy from ebay seller eautosource, they sent me a red CAI kit instead of the blue pictured one that I bought. Their customer service is manipulative, buy from another seller.

whew thats an old pic......let me post a new one....and im also late on this thread anyway i did not use the smaller coupler i just inserted pipe into maf which was a tight fit but not as tight as the coupler and secured it with a clamp and permatex to prevent air leaks see pics. below it works well. it makes good sence to me to get this cai unless you have money to throw away its just a tube....

someone needs to do some cleaning.... what is that silver box on the fender wall next to maf...

Yea, Ive been meaning to pull all kind of stuff out and clean around it one day. Just need to find the time.

And that box the the control module for my twin turbonators. :rlaugh:

Its actually the ballast for my HID kit.

I have this same kit. I had absolutely NO PROBLEM with the connectors. I did, however, have a big ole problem with the AIT sensor bung. It was about 2x deeper than it needed to be. So, I cut it off with a hacksaw. Works perfectly, now. Some will say it's not worth it, I think it was a very well spent $40.

I have the kit pictured in the original post (Bomz Racing CAI) and I installed it today. I found that two of the hose clamps were too small so I have to buy some larger ones.

Also, I couldn't put the MAF screen back on, I kind of wanted it there just in case the air filter fell off and I didn't know it. Did most of you ditch the MAF screen when installing your CAI?

Also, with this kit I couldn't figure out how to mount the heat shield, the kit didnt come with bolts to secure the shield to the fender. I see 2 holes in the shield but what are you supposed to line these holes up to? I'm guessing the 2 holes that used to hold the stock air filter box?
