I'm supposed to put some silicon gasket maker on the new shifter before I put it on the tranny...what constitutes as silicon gasket maker and where can I buy some if my dad doesn't have some in the basement? Thanks!
You can pick it up at your local auto parts store... ie autozone, checker... Its RTV silicone gasket maker. I got the blue stuff which has worked fine for me. Just make sure you clean of the existing sealant first to make sure you will get the best possible seal. A razor blade is probably your best bet. Just be careful not to nic the metal.

Agreed with all the above, except I'd recommend RED RTV...high temp. Blue is typically only good up to 400 degrees, whereas Red is good to 650. Blue is probably fine, but to be safe, I used the red.
And here's a little additional useless info for ya, for free: RTV stands for "Room Temperature Vulcanizing".
Best of Luck!!!
