I have a chancee on getting a 2000 explorer 5.0 with 43k on it for 500$$.
I need to make sure it will work in my 1988 GT with a manual trans. Will stuff like motor mounts, trans, firing order work with it??? please hurry! thanks in advance! sorry but im kinda excited!

Do you not have your origonal motor? or are you selling that whole or something? Anything on that explorer that isn't going to work in a mustang, can be replaced with the part off your mustang's motor. So unless your getting rid of that motor... whats the problem? Pick up that motor and if your worried about the bellhousing, just swap bellhousings, ect. ect.

That's the block that I have in my car, just like 65shelby said you need a different oil pan, timing cover, and water pump. Everything else should bolt right up, does it come with a wiring harness or are you using yours?

Peace..

Awesome Good Advice!!! Keep it coming! Yes i have my orignal motor and everything to go with it. I guess i am going to have to reuse some parts but no biggie. Stuff like the distributer and a distributer less system worrys me, and i took a look at it and the motor mounts look different??Are they the same or is it just me?? I think i am goin to have to use my wiring harness, Shouldnt the stock T5 tranny bolt right up to it?

You know what bellhousing will bolt up to the t5, so just use that one, bellhousings take all of 5 minutes to swap on a motor thats out of the car. You can make the distributorless work but you gotta have all the electronics for it aswell. Otherwise, pull all that stuff off, and move over your standard mustang FI components and use your Mustang harness.
Rule of thumb for this project.
If your not sure something will work, use the mustang part cause you can be sure that one will.
Cool!?
Okay!
Good luck.

Use your mounts, they'll bolt to the block. You'll need your fuel rail, and it'd be easier to use your front accesories.(waterpump, alt, P/s etc) The distributor hole should still be in the blockif memory erves me correct.. If you want to sell the intakes, or anything else off the motor, I have a 5.0L in a Ranger, and it could benifit from some of the Explorer stuff.

Just pull the distrubutorless cam angle sensor out of the distributor hole and stick the distributor off your old engine in there. Motor mounts are different, but the bolt pattern on the block itself is the same on any 260/289/302/351W/351C. Yes, your T5 bellhousing will bolt right on. Bellhousing pattern is the same. Also, you will have to use your harness because the Explorer had different sensors in different places and probably more of them.
