Well first off I'm no Ford expert but hoping you'll help out a Chev guy...

Trying to help someone out on her 91 5.0. It seems to be running on the throttle but surges at idle. Where should I start??

I'm 10-15 mins away. I can help if you want. Easier to see the car than over the net-fix. Whats been done to it lately? Has it always run like this?

Well the car is in White Center. The lady is a customer of mine at the bank who used to be rich then got screwed and is now living in a horrible place. She was getting ready to move when the car started acting up. I'm just trying to save her from taking it to a dealership. It just recently started to die on her when she would slow down. When I started it, it ran great for a minute or two then started to surge. It wanted to die if you revved it and let off. Found out #6 was not firing due to a bad plug. Drove around fine but is idling at like 600-700 and sometimes surges.

Take the to a Schucks and borrow a code reader first.

yeah, if you get a check engine light, then they can read the code. I'd set the timing first (disconnect the SpOUT connector on the distributor). Then clean out the idle air motor. check the MAF to see if it's dirty but DO NOT use brake cleaner on it, that leaves residue and pretty much ruins the sensor. Disconnect the battery for a while so that the computer finds the sweet spot without reference to how it ran on a bad plug.

here's a damn good site for this problem..
