Need help with front tire rub, and fender question.

I have an 86 GT that I did a 5 lug conversion using SN95 spindles. I am running 245/45/17’s on an 8 inch rim. I get tire rub pretty bad in the front, rear is fine. Before I go out and invest in a 225 series tire, I would like to see if anyone can help me. I know that in 91-93 the mustang had it’s fenders or inner fenderwell’s made bigger to accommodate the pony rims. Will the inner fenderwell plastic from a year listed above fit into my 86? I have already had to cut pieces of mine out so the rub would not be so bad, but it sounds horrendous at full lock.

I'm a little foggy on the '86's moulding, but if it's pastic like the '87 and up you should be able to sand off the front edge where it meets the bumpoer cover and slot the holes to keep the fender side looking stock. That and a set of '91 up fenders and bumper extensions should fix it.

You can also dig around junk yards and cut the rubber boots off a steering rack and remove the plastic travel limiters and install them on you rack. Mine has two on each side and it keeps the wheel off the A arms, but it turns like a semi now too.

i bought 245-45-17's for my 17X8 4 lug wheels and they rubbed, exchanged them for 235-45-17's and they are perfect
