Need Help with Steeda CAI and Predator

At DiabloSport we work hard to generate calibrations that make good safe daily driver horsepower, in a range of conditions with a range of aftermarket parts and different fuels. We can not be there to inspect each vehicle, its modifications and how they may have been installed. We do supply the needed diagnostic capability, data monitoring and logging tools to evaluate the vehicle and adjustability to correct these issues in most cases.

I am wondering if the customer in Germany has the ST7149, or U7140 Predator? Many of the issues with calibrations are related to the fact that many people may not get the right programmer for the application, sometimes because a dealer does not sell them the right programmer or they just fail to order the right one, either way it makes an tune issue exist where one should not.

We offer internet downloadable firmware updates, to handle the addition of new features, or to support CALID updates from Ford, which occur all the time without the vehicle owners ever being told by Ford.

We work to educate the end user on how to recognize and deal with the conditions that come about for all types of possible reasons, combinations of after market parts, fuel, atmospheric conditions or the wrong programmer for the application. All DiabloSport calibrations are created by experienced tuners and engineers and tested on a loadable chassis dyno and the street in many conditions.

Other programmers are sold by the manufacturer with out preprogrammed calibrations, so what you get is a tune made by a dealer in the field or something auto generated by predetermined strategies in a software program meant to be a baseline tune used for dyno tuning.

I’m sure there are many great programmers out there but ask what you’re getting when buying a programmer. How long has the tuner been tuning vehicles, and how many calibrations has he produced and tested for your application?

I always list my e-mail address for the simple reason I feel access is the key to making sure we have happy customers. Feel free to drop me a line anytime, for any reason.

Thanks,

Well Nick, I must say that I am one very satisfied customer. I do have the ST7149, I ordered direct from steeda to make sure that I had the tune that was created for their CAI. I agree that the fuel available here in Europe, or the altitude that I live at (about 1000 ft ASL) or any combination thereof could have created the problem that i was having. But I must say that the support I received was top notch. It's now been about a week with CAI and the tune installed with no issues, some impressive power, and one huge grin whenever I go out driving. So my thanks to the team at Diablosport.

I am having the opposite problem. I installed a Steeda CAI on my 2005 GT Vert and I get lean burn codes for both banks when I first start the car. If I use the DiabloSport tuner to clear the codes, they don't re-appear until I start the car again. The car runs great and no codes appear when running. I've checked the tube to make sure everything was properly installed and it seems to be right. We can't figure this one out, has anyone had a similar problem ??

I had the same problem. I have the ST7149 and went to Diablosport to get the updates. It said at the time and still says that the page is not available. Tried to use the Steeda updates for the u7149 and that didn't work either. E-mailed Diablo and Steeda and got a response and the proper tune from Gus at Steeda.

05 BLK-BLK --I am sorry about the rant, I just have seen people jump to hasty conclusions about companies including diablosport.

For instance there was one mustang owner that had a programming issue with the predator that added the Steeda delete plates and c&l CAI and kept getting the CEL light. He wrote a post about how crappy the predator was and then switched to SCT. Well he spent several hours on the dyno with SCT and still got the CEL light. In the end he just yanked out the steeda plates that were causing the light.

He then wrote a post apologizing to diablosport as it really wasnt there fault. There was just something about his car that wouldnt make the steeda plates work.

I understand the need for users to advise the rest of the stangnet community to beware of certain companies and parts and give feedback for others to use and I love that. But some of these "opinions/facts" are sometimes inflamatory and prejudge a situation. People need to be more patient with the aftermarket IMO.

I also feel that the aftermarket needs to ignore the anxious S197 consumer market and just take its time to come out with a better part.

Also sometimes a part may not work for other reasons such as the combination of parts like the above example. The steeda plates work great and the C&L intake works great but when they were put together he could not get the car to be tuned right. Another issue could also have to do with end user installation mistakes. Having something not work right may not factually be a flaw or defect in the part and that companies products and engineering. I just feel that we sometimes over simplify a problem and arent patient enough to consider all of the possibilities and solutions.

What do you mean by steeda delete plates? That isn't the same as the Steeda CAI is it?

Cause I'm getting the Steeda CAI and SCT Cal2 combination and I want to make sure that combination works with NO Check engine light, will it?

Dave.

The Steeda Rep, Gus, e-mailed me everything I needed. I originally had the 80mm housing so the update wouldn't work without the check engine light coming on. He sent the 80mm tune which cured the problem and also the new one for the 90mm. I've since upgraded to the 90mm housing and all is well.
