Need ignition cylinder

I took my ignition cylinder out today, and dropped it and broke it. I need a new one. Not the part where the key goes into, but the part that THAT goes into. The shell or whatever. I'm guessing that they only make them in a kit though. I checked 50resto, and they don't have them for 94+. Is that something I'm gonna have to get straight from ford? Am I gonna have to get new keys? (JT you mentioned maybe being able to have a locksmith cut my cylinder to my current keys?). If I need new keys, can I buy original ford blanks, like the black ones I have? Or do I just have to get generic ugly crap keys? Thanks!

they are like 30 somethin bucks from ford, and they come with 2 keys that are already cut....why the hell do you care what the key looks like?!?! LOL! its a key man...it looks very similar to the stock key...

I think it is nice to have one key that does everything, hence why I would want to have the locksmith retumble your new lock (to accept the old key).

I cant offer more because I cant picture the shell that surrounds the lock cylinder. The smart folks in here will though.

Michael, my key now has Ford on it, and I just like that it's the original key (pretty much the only part of the car that is still original, lol). I'll try and swing by Ford this week to order one.

JT, yea I didn't even think about my doors/trunk being different then. That settles it, I'm gonna find a locksmith to redo my new cylinder for my original keys. I have a spare, so I can just leave it with him if I need to. Thanks bro!

you can do that??? i wish i had known that when i got my new cylinder....

Yep, they can do about anything. I ended up with a valet key once. I took my master lock (the pass door lock on that individual car) to the locksmith and he made master keys from the lock alone. That is totally different but just shows how simple locks are.

For this issue, the rekey is VERY common, as people dont normally want separate keys. Michael, you could still have it done if you have your old key around. Like I said, it cost under 20 bucks and should not take long. He was real busy so I left the stuff with him for a couple hours. I have the feeling that it takes 20 mins or so of work though.

hmmmm, maybe ill consider it...i still use the stock key for the door locks and trunk, so we shall see....personally i really dont care too much about the 2 different key,s and i'd rather spend my $20 on somethin else, but we'll see...

I went through this same ordeal last week with my car. If you look at your key, it's actually a 2 part deal. The teeth near the tip are for the ignition, and the ones further down towards where you hold it are for the door locks. When you go to ford to get your new cylinder, you can also have them cut the bottom part of the key to fit in your door locks, So you only need one key. And yes, the keys that come with it are identical to the stockers.

it is called a 10 cut key. the first five cuts are for the ign cyl and the second 5 are for your doors/trunk.

when you get a new cyl the key you get will only have the first five cuts made. you then have to take the key to a locksmith and have them match your old key's last five cuts to your new keys blank last five cuts--hope this makes sense.
