need info on axles and sizes, please give me some info!

ok heres the thing, I blew my 7.5 axle (think the carrier is kapooie, and pretty sure the pass. side axle is snapped) so im goin for an 8.8 but i dont want to give and arm and a leg for the swap....basicly i have an offer of a tbird turbo coupe 8.8 with 3.73's and ABS, i dont have abs, and i have 5 lug axle shafts from a 03 mach 1, my question is will this axle work for me? will i be able to swap out the axles? i was told the widths are different and that will cause problems.....i need any and all info on axles i can use in my car....the local salvage yard wants $500.00 for a 8.8 assembly out of an 02.... alll info is greatly appriciated!

no, i dont have A GT, i have a former v6 car.... showstopper: are you sayin i could take the tbird axle housing and put my mach one axle shafts in it nad use it??
no, he isnt saying to use a tbird axle, because the tbirds were IRS. you need to find a junked 99-04 GT and use the diff housing from one of them.

He is talking about the Fox t-birds, which were 8.8 solid rear ends. The 87-88 turbo coupe had disk brakes out back, but were 4 lug.

You really can't use that axle.

With the 99+ car, the rear axle housing was widened to accomodate the extra girth of the 99+ cars. That means the 99-04 8.8 axle is unique.

You pretty much need to get yourself a 99-04 GT 8.8.
