Need opinions on buying a cobra

My buddy is looking to buy a 97 cobra from a dealer that has 91000 on it for 10,000. We got them down to 8500. However, we heard a little wining noise from the trans so they jacked it up for us and it is a tremec. So now the car has a tremec and bassani exhaust, but for some reason there was duct tape on the bell housing. Hmmm.... I have no idea why we took the tape off and it wasn't doing anything so i don't se why duct tape would be on there. I just wanted everyones advice and if you guys think its a good buy.

Well don't get your hopes up just yet on that tranny. Because Borge Warner used to build the stock tranny for the mustang and then Tremec took over and they now build it. So it may or may not be a performce tremec but just a factory tremec. The T5 design and manufacturing rights were purchased by Tremec in 1996 and is still being produced in Mexico.

The synchros are junk in those trannies. If they're not bad yet you will NOT notice it until you try a quick shift at high rpms.

Duct tape? Sounds like a camaro thing. ha ha ha

Whining is pretty normal for a T-45. It's a similar design to the T-5 (though it's a front loader, instead of a top loader). It's a bit stronger than a typical T-5, though. Not TKO strong .
