Hey there everyone :D

I have the opportunity to pick up an O/R x pipe tomorrow for a great price.........but I need to act fast before someone else snags it! I'd like to hear some of your opinions/experiences you've had with this particular exhaust combo. It's going to be put on my 05 GT which is pretty much stock, with the exception of an intake and tuner. The pipe is a JBA, if that makes any difference.

Some areas of concern for me are......
1.) Exhaust note/volume at start up and idle.......I live in a townhouse complex with very whiny HOA members
2.) The quality of the exhaust note......meaning I HATE the can o' marbles sound that some of the off road pipes give off on the S197. I'm not sure if that has to due with axle back choice though
3.) Ease of install..........I've swapped pipes on my 94 GT tons of times, and can knock it out in less than an hour. I'm guessing the install is similar, right?
4.) Is there any power gain with the swap to be had? I know the factory setup is pretty trick already.........just curious.

I have spent a bit of time on various websites trying to figure this out for myself, but it's hard to tell unless you've heard it in person.

Your opinions and guidance will be greatly appreciated!! :nice:

For a while, I ran an off road H pipe, paired with the stock mufflers on my 05 and loved it. The tone was just right, not too menacing, but when you get in the throttle, it definitely still made its presence known. It'll be a great combo for staying quiet when you want it, yet it'll still have some bark when you get on it. My experience is with an H pipe, but the X will be similar. It'll just be a little less rumbly that the H pipe offers. The only thing I didn't like about the O/R pipe with the stock mufflers was the volume. I wanted it to be a little louder, so I swapped out the stock mufflers for some flowmasters, and I love the result. The ease of install should be no sweat. It'll be very similar to your other car. Nuttin tricky about it. I've done it once myself on my 05, and I did it a few times on a few different SN95s and it was very similar. I don't have any numbers for performance gain, but I really doubt you'll feel a difference. The stock midpipes on these cars are really not that bad. Only two cats, and they looked relatively high flowing. Good luck!

thanks flyboy86 :nice: Exactly the kinda input I'm looking for :nice:
Keep em' coming fellas :flag:

Right off the bat the O/R X will be a tad louder, the raspy'ness might be too much for you if your not used to it. If your complex is very close nit' I would recommend if you do get it, start it in the garage ! Your neighbors will like you more !

The stock mufflers are very quiet. The off road pipe will definitely make it more noticeable, but you shouldn't be making neighbors mad.

my brother in laws vert with O/R H & stock mufflers is almost as loud as my car and mine is O/R H w/ Flows. cold start ups are very similar in sound and volume. once warm, there is a noticeable difference. mine is much louder once warm.

maybe ill take a video this weekend when i see him again.

yes, make the video. start up, rev, take off, flyby, burnouts, donuts, cop chase, etc.

lol.......I don't have a whipple, so the cop chase is a no go :rlaugh:
Apparently it was to much to ask this guy to hold the x pipe for me overnight.......as I was at the ATM he calls and tells me he sold it last night :notnice:

On that note......is there any difference between brands like JBA/MAC/Pypes etc? I mean sound wise, fitment etc
