I need some pointers.. gonna take the cobra out this weekend to dragstrip.. never driven the car hard.. wanna know how to:
1) do a burnout
2) how to powershift (should I or should I not?)
3) what rpm to launch at (street tires and slick)

got 494 rwhp no suspn mod and it's covert. thanks guys! :nice:

1) Unless you have drag radials or other sticky tires I wouldn't do a burnout...street tires won't get much stickier with a burnout and they can actually cup and not give you as much traction...but if you want, you can either press the brake pedal with your heel and press the gas with your toe and let the clutch out and keep good pressure on the brake while you accellerate and the rear wheels will spin...or, you can rev up to about 5k and drop the cluch and quickly press on the brake with your left foot to keep the car from rolling forwards...I do the 2nd way and it works well for me...

2) I wouldn't powershift if you don't want a broken tranny...or if you don't care and want an extra tenth or so, just don't let off the accelerator when you shift...press in the clutch and keep the accelerator on the floor and shift as fast as you can before letting the clutch back out...

3) on street tires and your power level, I wouldn't launch at much above 2k or you'll go up in smoke...with slicks you could probably do a 4k launch and hope nothing in the rearend breaks...

well you have planty of power. power shifting is not a great idea like was said. you dont need to unless you wanna walk home. with that much power street tires would be useless. if you run radials then i wouldnt even bother trying to launch as the tires will only spin. slip the clutch out fast and ease into the gas would probably work better. not the best for 60 ft times but help with 1/4 times if you dont light the tires up. if you run slicks with a stock rear then i would say 3500 rpms.

until you get some passes, with slicks or streets, i would just dump at 2500 and let it bog, hook and go. focus on the third yellow light, nothing else once you have staged and when it turns yellow, go. It is too easy to make it complicated and just spin your wheels real bad. try some easy launches and learn the procedure of racing, before expecting to rip a 10.
