Need sable Tranny, help please.

Not totally sure where to post this, so I'll throw it in here. I've got a friend with a 97 Sable that needs a new tranny, some place said they're going to charge her 1400 dollars just to fix hers, and another 400 just for removing and reinstalling it, which is I was wondering if any of you knew a cheap place to buy rebuild trannies. Thanks

Unfortunately that price is about right. I paid $1600 to have one rebuilt on my wifes Sable. This was 5 or 6 years ago. The tranny started to slip again right before we got rid of it about 3 years later. The transmission is the weak link in that car.

The transmission problems are exactly why I offed my 2000 Taurus daily driver with 60,000 miles and got a new Crown Vic Sport. We'd already paid $1500 to fix the tranny once and it was starting to act up again.
