so. calif
my car is a slug. i just wanted to get that out of the way.
stock 95 vert 5spd.

for over a year i get the cel almost daily but it gos off within 10-15 seconds. every time.
i had the codes pulled last year and got these....

181
Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen sensor - voltage signal not switching: indicates "lean" during part throttle engine operation (bank #1)

189
Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen sensor - voltage signal not switching indicates "lean" during part throttle enginer operation (bank #2)

now when i first pulled them both those codes came up then we cleared them and just the 189 came up.

well i opened up my stock air box and sprayed some electric cleaner on the maf sensor and it seemed not to trip the cel as much or with as much frequency.
but i never did anything about it except the maf cleaning.
now fast forward a year and its tripping the cel alot agian.

my car starts and idles perfect.
no roughness at all.
but its accelaration is pretty slow. takes forever to build revs.
seems like an eternity to get near redline.
now i know the 2.73 gears dont help but wtf?

so i bought a fuel filter and want to install that, could that be the problem?

the cel never seems to do any harm so i have ignored it all this time.
but now i have extra time on my hands to solve this.

ive been searching this forum for everything about maf, throttle body, injector cleaning. also slow sluggish feeling cars. trying to find something.

give me some good advice about what it could be?
plugs, wires, cap and rotor are only about 1 yr old.

thanks mark.

i dont know the timing,i did not change any o2's no weird smells and its always been pretty slow.
but very reliable and i can get 28mpg highway and 22 mixed. so it seems tuned up ok?
bone stock it is.
if im in 1st and just going 5 mph and gun it it will not break loose 99% of the time.
and i have only 225 wide tires.
whats sad is i had a 89 sentra that burned out from a 5 or 10 mph roll.

so whats wrong with my stang

Your gears suck and that's a big part. I bet it is a pain to shift it. With 3.08's I was always pushing in the clutch and 30 mph b/c the car just wouldn't go any slower in gear!

I have 3.55 but would recommend 3.73. They are ideal. Pull out the maf and clean it. Works wonders. Also, with my 306 it really woke up when I pulled the cats. Wow was it restricted! Good luck.

Sounds like a combo of 02 censors, and timing. More than likely your timing is still stock, and your 02's are starting to go south, also while you doin some tune up stuff change your fuel filter, its pretty quick and inexpensive. And of course as stated above clean your maf censor. You still have the stock air filter and holder? If so take out the snorkel and add a k&n filter, its free accept for the k&n.

yeah i got the stock air filter set up but put a new filter in last yr.
i want 3.73s they are on my list along with full exaust without all those damn cats.
well the codes are o2 sensors.
if i go with a off road h pipe would i still be using o2's?

ok i bought some electric parts cleaner from checker(same stuff i used last year) and i opened up the air box so i could look into the mass air and the screen was FILTHY every time i touched the screen with the q-tip it made a shiny streak where the q-tip was and the q-tip was black. so i used a small cloth to clean the screen up.
then i used the cleaner and sprayed it into the mass air, mostly on the spring its self.
it has been about 2 hours and i have not started the car let. want to make sure its fully dry.
also i checked the throttle body and it was spotless!!! so i guess thats not a problem at all.
im going to take the car out soon for a test.

well after the cleaning i will say it seems to have a new found power.
it pulls faster and harder to redline and i have not triped a cel all night.
but could that be because i had the battery disconnected for over an hour and the ecu is reset.
i wonder it it will come back?
