I have a 03 gt. I bought it used with 3000 miles on it form a ford dealership. my issue is that it keeps going into the shop for the air conditioner compressor going out. It has been back a total of four time now. Each time it works for a few months then it goes back out again. During the summer when I was running the air hard it went out within a month. The last time I took it in the repair held for over 6 months. My issue is the warranty is about to expire. I don't want to get stuck paying $500 in repair costs every 6 months. Is there anything I can do? It appears that lemon laws only apply to new cars, has anyone else experienced a problem like this. Or possibly have any insight.

Thanks,

Nathan

What exactly have they done? Have they actually replaced the AC compressor? I had a similar problem where the clutch on the compressor kept falling off, so they just replaced the compressor since it was slightly defective and the clutch wouldn't stay on it. No problems since.

Yes each time they have removed the compressor and replaced it with a new one. They also replaced the compressor pulley/clutch as well. I am thinking that here is something else causing this problem. As I doubt that I would get luck enough to have four bad compressor/clutches.

If it were me, I'd take it to a different Ford dealer. Maybe the one you're taking it to is missing the real problem. It's worth a shot, especially since your warranty is about to run out. Tell the new dealer that you've taken it to "so-and-so" dealer 4 times and it's still not fixed and they might want to look harder for the problem just to be the "dealership that finds the problem". Ya know what I mean?

Best of luck man!

Hmmmm. Doesn't make much sense. I know that as long as this is a problem identified under warranty then they should keep fixing it forever. Unless of course it stays fixed for over a year. Maybe it will work this time, but if not I would not pay anything as they have yet to fix a warranty issue.

Are they changing just the compressor? Should be replacing the Accumulator and Orifice Tube at every Compressor R&R and the Condenser should be checked and flushed if the compressors are coming apart on the inside. Sometimes the condenser gets too clogged and can't be flushed and needs to be replaced.

here is a list of what was replaced and what services were performed based on the invoice:

Assembly kit a/c compressor
Disc & hub asy - a/c compressor clutch
pulley assemble - a/c clutch
Field assembly - ac clutch
Oil compressor
Tube assembly - A/c cond to evap
Accumulator & sw assemble - A/c
A/c System flush
Compressor assembly - A/c
O ring kit
Accumulator assembly- Ac
High side line
Mt flush
Serpentine Belt

As far a I can tell everything that has been listed above as a possible cause was replaced on each occasion. Also about not having to pay once the warranty is over due to the fact that it is still warranty work will probably not fly, and because I for see this happening again, I contacted a local lawyer and inquired about starting a lemon law case. I have had this car in the shop five time over the past two years. Once for a cel light from a wiring harness issue, 4 times for this a/c issue, once for erratic fuel gauge behavior, and once for the done light switch going out. I have to fax them the service records tomorrow. Has anyone had experience with a lemon law case?
