I'm thinking about buying a 98 or newer crown vic. I have a couple questions. 1st is. They are all 220hp right. I want one without traction control is that possible. My grandmother has a 99 grand marquis and it has traction control that does not turn off. So I don't want that. I know there air intake and top part of engine is rearranged a little different than our gt 2 valves. So what kinda 2 valve mustang stuff can I transfer over. I know theres not a whole lot of aftermarket designed for those cars. I'm kinda wanting something different but I wanna keep it a 4.6. Are the heads the same exact heads we have on our cars. Pi right. But cams are different. I just wanna know how they detuned those cars to have 40 hp less than a stock gt.

Any info would be appreciated.

I'm with RODBERT get a 2001 so you can at least get a pi headed car.Does anyone know if the plenum still faces the driver side?I was looking at my wifes 96 vic the other night sitting next to my 2000gt and the plenum looks almost the same'but turned the oppisite way.I was thinking of trying to put a Dragon plenum on the wifes vic like on my gt.Great mod buy the way :nice: It gave me 6rwhp and 9rwtg though all rpms. Also you could get T&J or TEA to tweek the comp to help.Add some exhuast and is might be a smooth ride.Good luck

There was an awesome 1999 white Crown Vic, former police car for sale in Tampa on ebay last month. It had two subwoofers, a dvd player, and still looked like a police car from the outside. Spotlight, window tint, hubcaps, antenna, etc. It was very well done, not tacky or stupid at all. You could have so much fun with a car like that...

i know borla makes a catback for 98 + panther chassis cars, its kinda pricey though, around $1k. as said before the 2001 + panthers got the PI heads and cams. the hp loss is through PCM programming, and a restrictive intake/exhaust. I seem to remember Sean Hyland had some hooker headers that fit a CV/GM/TC. plenums still face the drivers side. i looked into putting a conical air filter on my GM, the mustang one was kinda big, i went to k-mart and opened up all the fram air filter boxes to find the right size. ended up not buying it though. you can put a bullit intake on the car and make a custom intake hose. there are eibach springs available, forget the number. you can use the same 8.8 gears as you would on a stang, 3.73 and 4.10 are pretty popular on panthers, but above 3.55 you need an aluminum driveshaft off of a police interceptor, the part number is "XW7Z-4602-AA" about $180 at fordparts.com

hope this helps, but make sure to not get the air suspension, that really limits the dropping ability of teh car, also the police interceptor shocks are a good upgrade.

There are a number of tuners putting these behemouths into the 12's and 13's, however, it takes a LOT of horsepower to move nearly 5000lbs of vehicle, fuel, and driver off the line to produce those numbers. A recent MM&FF article showed that a bone-stock '01-'03 Crown Vic/Grand Marquis runs the 1/4 in 16.5-17.0 sec range. How much power does it take to drop 1/4mi ET's by a full 4 sec.? I don't want to discourage you because I think it would be a good project, but just a little reality check here. BTW, I also own a '01 Crown Vic with the Ford "handling package" used on the special service vehicles...Watts link, 3.55 gears, performance wheels 'n tires, etc.
