OK heres the deal. My battery keept going dead. wich i figured was the alternator well i put a new one on and a new plug for the alternator worked fine a few days. Then it started up again. the next problem started when i went to jump start it one night. The car started cranking on its on and the started started grinding realy bad with the car off and keys in my pocket. It was as if i was i was trying to start it fromt he selenoid. So i put a new one on. work fine for a few days and my problem came back. So now im assuming its the starter thats messed up and causing all this. so i put a new one on start it and shut it off a few times everythings good im happy, leave for about 3 hours came back started it again good to go, shut it off to start again it does it again the car the starter starter grinding realy bad like its not diengaging. so i shut the car off and take out the keys. to bad its still cranking over and the starters still grinding, i had to disconnect the battery to shut the car down. if i let it goe the batter will jsut drain in no time flat.

anyone got any ideas. only other thing i can think of is the plug that the big harness connects to on the lower side of the steering column.

thanks for any help mike.

if ya need any more details just ask.

so pretty much my problem is why is the start not diengaging,(new starter) and why does it keep cranking when i shut car off. I did notice when it does this after i get car shut offf and try and jump start it and ya hook jumper cables up to it the will start smoking like ya got em hooked up backwards.

I had to replace the starter twice in my 5.0 before I got a good one last time I had a "No start problem". The first starter I got from a GOOD auto parts store did not start from the key but would start by jumping the poles on the starter. I took the starter back, got another one, and after installation, it started right up from the key.

Diagnosis: Two darn bad starters, an old one and a new one. I never trust new parts!!!! Especially starters, alternaters and calipers. :notnice:

There is a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire.

Copy down you VIN number and call the Ford dealer nearest you. Tell them you want to see if the ignition switch recall for Fords & Mustangs was done on your car. They will ask for the VIN number & check it against the master database. If it isn't in the database, then you can schedule an appointment to have the switch replaced for free. The TSB is #95S28, and don't let them tell you that they don't do that anymore...

well i replaced the ingnition switch and the other plug that the main harness plugs into ont he steering column still doing it. I noticed it only does this if the starter is hooked up to the solenoid of course, when it dues this its like a posative is grounding out or something.
