Never had a problem with my cobra firing up, but recently it seems to turn over for a few seconds but not start. Usually I'll just let off the key and crank it again and it's starts right up. It doesn't stall and idles perfect so it just gives me a little problem on start up. Here's the background, 127,000 miles: New fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs and wires and a coil. The engine is pretty much stock and has never been apart or touched so the timing chain is pretty worn i'm guessing!!! And it still has original fuel pump, regulator and vaccum is a steady 18-19. Any ideas??

If you simply cycle the key twice before starting the car for the first time, does it start right up? That would suggest a weak check valve in the pump assembly or a weak pump itself. If the former, a few of us have that and it's generally not a biggie so long as the pump keeps up during normal driving (the check-valve has nothing to do with the actual pump itself. I.e. a leaky check valve doesnt necessarily mean the pump is on the outs).

If you have a FP gauge, you can also just note static pressure after you let it prime once. It might only be in the 20's, which is why you need a second prime.

Good luck.

I will go and check and cycle the key twice and see what happens. If the check valve is part of the fuel pump assembly i'm guessing it's easy to change right?? I was going to get a new pump and put it in sometime. Since it's not my daily driver anymore who knows when I'll get around to it. Oh, a tornado hit my apt complex on christmas day and I was lucky I only lost a rear deflector on my car!!!!
