I'm trying to decide on an intake for my combo, which includes Edelbrock Performer heads and a Crane 2040 cam (e-cam). I drive the car on the street so I don't want to sacrifice all my low-end, but I do want to some upper rpm pull. So far I am edging towards the TFS track heat and the Edelbrock Performer RPM. What do you guys (and girls) recommend?

I would go with the Performer. With the cam and heads you are planning to run it should be more than enough and is right where your power range is in.

Ditto. A lot of people will tell you to go with the RPM, but it's kind of overkill for a street car. You currently have an explorer intake? Why are you switching?

I'm switching because I hate the looks of the explorer and i was told by many people i should get a better intake. my friend with gt-40x heads and an e-cam switched from a cobra to a performer rpm 2 noticed a pretty noticable increase in power throughout the rpm range.

If you are switching because you don't like the looks, it's your decision. I don't think you're going to gain much in terms of performance though. The RPM 2 intake is kind of a different animal; like the rpm you'll gain a substantial amount on the top end, but it wouldn't be as favorable at lower rpm. It's your call, but I still feel the performer/gt40 are your best options for a street car.

I would go with the Performer...it will flow with what you need and match your Edelbrock heads (same manufacturer) nicely...

Good Luck with your choice :nice:

What about the TFS street heat? It says it's good from idle-5500rpms. It's also cheaper than the performer.

The TFS street heat would also be a good choice; very comparable to the performer. I don't think it looks as good as the performer IMO, but that's all in the eye of the beholder. You can pick up either one used for around $300-$350.

I can tell you my friend has a nice mild 10.5:1 306 with edelbrock heads, TFS street intake and a comp 270xe cam making nice power (323hp/348tq) His car peaks about 5500 and then drops after that. By 6000 rpm he's lost about 20hp. Just to give you an idea of the top end. An RPM intake would have been ideal for him. Anyway, with that E cam I don't thibk your gonna gain much with an intake swap and using a "bigger" intake might cost you a little under 3000. With that E cam your NOT gonna have your cake and eat it to. Do you plan on more changes down the road? Once I hear back from you, i'll help out more. Theres also soem "hidden" power in your combo with a LT and TB swap. The TFS street heat with a 75mm TB is a good choice for you if you don't have any big changes down the road. The performer is a good choice as well but more money.
