i am trying to get my car past inspection so i can do the title work. so i took it to the first place and the guy says he cant do it because it is too low and he can't get it up on the lift.

the 2nd place gave me a list of 6 things to fix, all reasonable. it took me more than a month to fix them tho, so i had to get it reinspected. so i took it back to the same place. this time they said there are like 10 other things that i need to fix:

- front wheels rub when you turn them all the way
- rear wheels rub on the exhaust (not true!)
- something about an emissions evaporation thing
- the windshield needs repair
- ds high beam out
- drivers seat is ripped
- wheels are too wide
- front bumper is loose
- nails in 2 tires

when i talked to the manager, he said they must have missed all that stuff before. on top of that, they charged $100 for it.

he then told me i could go complain to the authorities if i didn't like it. if i hadn't walked away right then, i think i might have used my karate training and kicked his teeth in.

i'm taking it somewhere else ...

One of the few upsides to living in Oregon -- we don't have to put up with that inspection crap.

Wow, sounds like they're grabbing at air on some of those. Driver's seat ripped? Are you crazy? You'd better watch out! A spring might pop out and stab you on the freeway causing you to swerve into the median and crash in a deadly fireball.

What kind of inspection are you doing. MD have some kind of weird laws.
Here in Washington all we have to do is go through emissions once every 2 years and all they do is plugin to your cig lighter and stick a rod up your tailpipe.

I go to a guy where my dad used to work when he was in highschool, so the guy gives me a break (He even passes my lack of cats ) but this year he failed me cuz I had a Chicane Sport Tuning banner on my windshield...apparently you're only allowed to have a 4"x6" sticker on your rear window ONLY, no others, that's BS. They complain about civilians havin them, yet sheriffs have SHERIFF all over their windshield. So I had to take the banner off (which I had designed on autocad and had cut out on a lasercamm). The inspection thing is a bytch so we all feel for ya.

The shop I work at, the inspection dudes mostly just worry about exhaust leaks, tie rods, and tires....basically all the stuff that brings in the most money. They hate doing all the little crap so they dont worry about it.

The longest inspection I've had was when I took my car to get tags and all the places were out of inspection stickers except the CHEBY DEALERSHIP! Did you know it takes 6 Cheby mechanics 30 minutes to inspect a Mustang?

Hey Bubba come check this out.... he's got NAWWSS!

Guy smarted off when he brought it back to me. (BTW I watched them the whole time through a window into the shop.) He had a small chuckle, "that old ford might actually be a little fun to drive."

I replied, I have 3/4 of a bottle of juice left. Bring that vette out of your showroom and I'll show you how much fun it is.

the 2nd place was MUCH more reasonable. 4 things:

- nail in 1 tire
- exhaust leak at cat/after cat connection
- leaky fitting in power steering hose
- left turn signal auto-cancel

i can handle that. and it was only $68.

Holy crap, where do you guys live? USSR in the 1980's. What gives with all this inspection crap?

In Michigan, we just have to pay our registration and keep it insured. Beyond that, it's free game. Oh wait, it's Michigan.

I'm still blown away by all the crap some of you guys have to deal with in other states.

i thought it was outrageous until i saw where you are located. no surprise there. the DC/Metro area is filled with a-holes and crooks. Luckily i used to work at a shop so my boss just slaps a sticker on for me.
