Need to Vent!!!!

My engine blew in my 1994 v6 in early Feb. I did some shopping around for mechanics and after consideration I decided to get a reliable and highly reccommend company to do it. They gave me a quote on a 5.0L , with new tranny and exhaust and a deadline. Everything is built and ordered. My car got to the mechanic on March 17 I phoned him once a week just to see how things were going. Well I phoned last Friday and he said that I could pick it up so I was excited, so I phone today to just make sure he will be around tomorrow if I have any questions when I pick it up and he gives me this LIST of things that have to be done.....exhaust brackets werent in, signal lights dont work, fuel gauge doesnt work etc.....

I need some advice here HOW long does it take to swap out a v6 and install a 5.0 and new tranny and exhaust. This is a good sized shop approx 14 mechanics. He did have to add a new wiring harness but come on 5 weeks? Is this normal? I think because I live in a different city he might me *&^ing me over. Thoughts?

Thanks for letting me vent. :nonono:

seriously they should be able to do it in like a week.

you should see how fast our cars come together or apart for that matter, when there are like 3 of us working on them, in a damn driveway, with no hoist.

in a fully equipped shop things should move damn fast if they have any idea on what they are doing..

my myself i stripped the drivetrain out of the 92 coupe i had in less than a week, that was on jackstands and without any air tools even, just a ratchet and wrenches, and in that week i also completlely removed the ecu wire harness, and re routed the accessories harness inside the fender so it would be hidden, i didnt end up keeping the car, but you get the idea, cars arnt that complicated, it dosnt take that long.

16 hours aprox. for r&r motor and retrofit as necesary that's what I would quote. that should give you plenty of time. I have had my motor out in 1 hour flat when it was a 5.0 (using a hoist). 3.8 should be even quicker AND the wiring harness is a joke to route in these cars so i don't know what the deal is. Must be oddball parts that didnt show up.

I'm in the Hat too. Did this happen here or do you mean you have the car somewhere else? If it happened here I have a pretty good guess of who did it and they are brutal. Lots of mechanics, very little experience. Just curious. I have a really good engine builder here in Medicine Hat, problem is it's not cheap. Mines a little different though, he's a 4.6 man. I'm sure there are a lot of 5.0 guys but a good 4.6 mechanic is hard to find believe it or not. As soon as I said V8 overhead cam most mechanics cringe. They're too used to the old pushrod even though eveything is still just nuts and bolts. I need a garage to do stuff myself. It's a pain asking to use the Father in laws eventhough he has no problem with it. Sorry, now i'm venting.
