Negative Effects of "Dumps"?

you could keep your flows
cut off the tail pipes and make your own turndowns. or even take it to an exhaust shop will do it for a decent price, like 20$

turndowns sound much better i think. me my friend and couple 5.0 guys i know have them, me and one guy dont even have turndowns, just straight muffler. Cars are damn loud inside and out.

then i know a person who has a mustang with bbk headers, offroad h and flows with tailpipes, car is SO QUIET at idle, opens up more at WOT and sounds nice.

i think you'll like a dumped exhaust, sound better imo. everyone tells me my car sounds real good, but i have never heard my car drive, i've been the one driving it, only hear it idle from the outside.
its not loud enough to get pulled over. its not like open headers or anything, now thats loud

i remember when i first heard my car before i bought it, it was LOUD and it would make that "noise" in your ear, and made your voice sound funny.

but now i am used to it and its not so bad.
thats how i have my exhauset running straing muffler :) do you get gas smell at times? on mine I do.

also onefstsnake dont put a cam unless you have an aftermarket intake and/or heads :)

I got a 88 with dump off of flowmaster 40's and it is LOUD in the car. My F cam doesn't help though. But IMO i think if you don't drive the car to much, do it. It sounds MEAN! But i must warn you i can barely hear my radio. I have personally never had problems with 'smelling like exhaust', i did however fill in every little hole i could with some silicon just to be sure, and i always ride with my window cracked an inch or two...

I got Flows too i hate them I love how Mac sounds, never heard them dumped though. If you do go dumped I dont think you would smell gas since you have the stock Hpipe with the cats. I would put some headers on your list, the stockers are really restrictive.

When i was running pro dumps my car was moderately louder than my flowmaster catback. I def. noticed a huge difference in the way my car smelled after i put my full tailpipes back on, i just cut off the dumps and welded on the tailpipes. I eventually went back to the full flows tho. I used to where hoodies or over-shirts when i would drive just cause my car made me smell so bad like exhast, then when i would get out i would just ditch the hoodie or somethin back in the car, that was the only way i could have dumps and still smell good.

I have a 1990 gt, shorty headers, with an off road h pipe with flowmaster series 40 force two's and at idle it sounds ok.. nothing too loud, but when i open it up at throttle it sounds real nice. However... with the off road h pipe I get a lot of smell from the exhaust when my window is open and i sit at a red light too much. I think I might just invest in american thunder cat back exhaust because i want the louder idle... that's just my opinion because i like it loud. listening to music isn't bad when I have 2 JL AUDIO W3 subs with 1200 watts and 6 other speakers to listen too :D

only wheni romp on it and get those RPMs up, then i get that "smell" in the car, like hot exhaust kinda.
Your engine is tired thats why. My Car is dumped right now and im kinda regreting it because its so damn loud. I had smell problems so i angled the dumps different. You have a stock H-pipe and headers and wonder why your flows arent loud enough?? Get an Off road H-pipe or headers and a high flow catted H-pipe and youll be happy. And yes with Cats on your still gonna get fumes.

The only car I would put dumps on is a GT (exhaust is pretty much hidden by bumper anyways). I like the tailpipe look on an lx (cleaner).

Dumps will give you a bit more smell, more drone, more sound and blow dust on your car and the underside of it.

Dumps are lighter though (without tailpipes) so less weight is on the car.

Make you sure you turn them down, no need to get exhaust on the rearend (more heat).

Are you nuts?!!? The stockers are not restrictive at all until like 300hp.:Teh-Win: There is way too much misinformation flying around here as of lately.

Yea im sure they are but just compare a stock header to an aftermarket tubular one, BIG difference all those crappy bends and dents certainly dont help

You will loose power if you dump your flows. flows need at least 18" of pipe after them to make power.

Wow never heard that one before, guess you learn something new everyday. I did not notice a decrease/increase in power at all when I dumped my flowmasters, maybe it is just me though.

Your full of *****.

if you needed so much exhaust or you lose power wouldnt you see guys on an engine dyno with another 2 feet of tubing?? plus do the math how can more restriction(tubing) add performance??

your exhaust is going to be louder with dumps, they're gonna dump right under the car instead of going all the way out the back. the exhaust doesnt seem to bother me unless i have the heat on and windows up, but its not my daily driver so i dont care. The only negative effect would be waking up your neighbors. Do it.
