New 4.10 Gears and New Worst track times!

Ok.. I agree that I need to learn how to drive better with the 4.10 gears. I will also try pulling off the Maf and returning it back to stock with a dropin K&N filter. One of the reasons I kept all the stock parts and did not sell anything on Ebay. I may have been venting a little bit since I was hoping to finally get into the 13's but did worse. The $400+ for the gears kinda hurt also, but hopefully with practice, I can get the gains I was hoping for with them. Since I have stock tires instead of $700 for tires right now, any advice would be appreciated on how to launch to get 2.0 or lower 60ft times. Also, when I shift from 1st to 2nd, what rpm so that I don't spin again?

Thanks
Go to Jackie Chan's links. He posted running 18 lbs in the stock tires. That would help.

Look man, you sound frustrated. So far, the only advice you have really gotten is to ditch the maf and learn to drive better.

Fine, I say ditch the maf and more practice never hurts, BUT your times are suffering too much. I would look at some other things as well. This

This is what I would do if I were you:

1 - When you race, make sure you correct your times for barametric pressure, temp, humidity, and altitude. If you don't know how to do this, I can point you in the right direction. This way you will know how you are really running.

2 - Ditch the MAF!!!

3 - Service the car! Replace the fuel filter and pull your plugs. Both are soo cheap to do and the plugs may tell you something.

4 - Drop some pressure in your tires to about 20 psi in the back and raise them in the front to about 40 pis. Launch at 4,000 rpms and you will be able to pull 1.8's.

I'm surprised nobody's called :bs: on him running with an LS1. Speaking of which, how the hell do you run a 14.2 in a damn LS1? For crying out loud, my dog could do that with all four legs tied together.

I think there's a hell of a lot of people over there that need to learn how to drive.

there were quite a few ls1's running 14's at the track when i went last wednesday and a couple of them running low 13's on spray, so would you call bs on me running a second faster than ls1's and with sprayed ones?

Not you, because you're my hero. :kissy face:

.

1. How do I correct for temp, etc. you listed above?

2. Looking at the dyno chart, I am probably shifting too high. How do you determine the best shift point from your hp and torque graph?

Thanks,
Ray

As far as correcting your times, modular depot has an excellent on-line program for doing this.

You need to sign up first to be a member, then on top, click on the "My ET's" tab and simply start inputing the figures. You will need the data for the days your were driving. At my track, everything is on my time slip except for track altitude which the track will know if you ask them.

One of my friends in another state logs on to the weather channel and gets old weather data for the dates and times he was driving since his track does not display the data on his slip.

In this way, you may actually have slower times, but running faster when the times are corrected.

Try it out.

Thanks, I'll try it out. :nice:

5500rpms with stock PI heads and cams

Ah so thats what I was doing wrong when I went to the track, I was shifting at 5800-6K..still got 14.4 with a 2.24 60'. Maybe I should have let some PSI out, was running them rears at or VERY close to the max PSI.

Anyways yea I would say that you should practice a little more (like I should, 2.24s :nonono: ) and just shift like crazy LOL.Gears should have helped at least a little even with the spin...I suggest some suspension work if it is stock, as well as some 315s out back, they should help QUITE a bit on the launch but wont help the topend pull any...probably hurt it a little.BTW get rid of that C&L, that seems to be your problem...if its not then maybe they installed the gears REALLY tight and didnt replace the shims. Any noise coming from the rear end? With 3.73s all you have to do is swap the shims...well thats what we did in the 00 V6...works like a charm.

Well I just wanted to pitch in here.

It's not your gears that are slowing you down it's your superchip, you will need to program you chip for the mods that you have on the car right not, especially the Gears, plus I would suggest getting some slicks, you might be able to pull off a 1.9 with 4.10's one day but it's much nicer pulling off a 1.7, don't get drag radials, I had Some Nitto555r's on my car which I drove on the street everyday and after about 2 months my rear end started making wierd noises. I have slicks on my car right now and I launch at around 5500k with a 75shot of nitrous and my axle is holding together fairly well. What you can do to make sure that your rear end is not going it is you can brake stall it and if it's a 1 tire friar your rear end is getting loose and thats a big no no for any sticky tires.

I agree with the guys that said that you should take your car to the dyno and tune it.

Good Luck

Regards,
JT
