I deleted my A/C and P/S a while ago. For a long time I have been running it by reversing the tensioner. This worked enough to get around but the belt slipped a lot, there was just not enough tension. I already have a 3G alternator and a ASP underdrive pulley set. So I had it run like this:

So I got a waterpump for a '90Crown Vic. Autozone part CWP-641, March 2004 pulley which is a grooved water pump pulley holes drilled for both the clockwise and counterclockwise pumps. I wanted to go electric but it's just not in the budget. Here is the W/P with just the pulley on it. That pulley is too nice for aftermarket.

Then for the alternator. I still wouldn't have much tension with the stock tensioner system. I don't know, but I figured there wouldn't be much room for it to really be able to get a decent angle to dig in so I got the March 30025-09 alternator bracket. This is how it is setup the way March intended:

There is another way to get it done, and that is where the alternator is upside down with the tension rod below. Kind of like this:

The only thing is my 3G is too big. I've tried to run it and I've messed with it a bunch. Looks like I'm going to have to do some grinding. Is it worth it? It looks so much cleaner under there without the alternator sticking way up there. You can just see the heads, even if they are ugly stock E7's, but it looks so clean under there. Any suggestions or is there a reason I should run it with the alternator up there?

I love the look of those setups, but every time i see them the first thing i think of is "i'll lose my 10 second belt removal/installation if i lose the stock tensioner"

I'd do that in a second if I could keep my A/C. P/S I can live without, but not my A/C, too stinking hot down here.

It's 121*F right now where I am but being in the desert, at least the humidity is very low so that makes it more tolerable.

You don't happen to have the old A/C brackets you yanked off do you?

I'm putting mine back on...I hate peeling my shirt off the leather after a drive

why didnt you just keep the stock tensioner and put the belt all the way around the WP pulley?

because it has a reverse rotation waterpump.

the Crownvic used a standard rotation pump.

Update: All done!

I don't know why, but this whole thing seemed like an engine rebuild rather than what it is. We all know how some of those things go. We've all been there I think. Actually, it is a much larger of a project than it seems at first glance.

So anyways, so nice. Worth every penny and every headache. So glad not to start the car and hear the demon squeal from hell. Plus it looks so clean. Not exactly how I wanted it, but that will come later. Seems it runs a tad bit cooler. I think the Crown Vic water pump is a bit higher in volume. That would make sense I would think.

I also eliminated the EGR/TB coolant lines that run off those lines. Intake stays cooler now.

So here is the result. Engine a little dirty but I'm so glad.

So my setup is:

1990 stock Crown Vic water pump
ASP aluminum underdrive crank pulley
ASP aluminum underdrive alternator pulley
March 2004 aluminum waterpump pulley (similar in size as the old U/D pulley but slightly less)
March 30025-09 water pump bracket
40.5" belt (405K6) a 41" might be easier
1/2 to 3/8 adapter (home depot plumbing dept, D25 for us HD employees)
3/8 pipe thread plug
3/4 hose plug (home depot plumbing dept)
3/4 hose
Misc 1/4 and 5/16 washers to aid in spacing

Total cost about $240 and a bit bigger of a project than I though.
