New BOSS engine block

Is it possible that Ford realized that we are going for more than 400hp in our engines and finally stepped up to the plate? I wonder how much Hp this will hold before it becomes a grenade.
Anybody know about how much this thing is rated for?

I went on the site and I did'nt see anything with HP specs. But for $1500 instead of 24 to 2500 for a DART or WORLD block. How can you go wrong and it will still be all FORD..

Personally i think (and really really hope) that they saw what Chevy did with the Z06 engine (although i still disagree with the hyper pistons in that motor) and realised that pushrod power isn't dead by a long shot, and this block is just the beginning of another generation of pushrod Mustangs.

Of course, with the technology invested in the mod motors, i highly doubt it. Rumor has it that the upcoming Boss will have this engine though, and that's pushrod power....so unless they have someone build the cars for them or do some kind of engine swap, it's either rumor or good things are coming. Not that i don't like mod motors, but if you ask me, the words "Boss" and "302" have nothing to do with a mod motor, even if it is a 302 version.

As for the block itself, i'd buy one.

The new BOSS block should hold into the 1000-1500hp range it is comparable to the R302 or Dart Sportsman. I would still put my money into a DART Sportsman for $1950 or so it features billet caps, better oiling and a few other design specs that are nice.

I like the DART block but when your on a budget. 1500 is alot better than 1900 plus machining. Sounds like I'm going to be sneaking more money into that secret can, buried in the back yard....

you still have to have the Boss machined

someone will have to talk to a machine shop that has done both to see what the diffence in price is, then we can figure out the better value

i think i would be more happier with the new boss 302, if its anything more then what it was in its day,(meaning a well known source of power) i wouldn't mind tossing one of those boys right in my car.. the boss 302 in its time was nicely put together imo, i just hope that in this day of age. that it will impress everyone as it did when it was released back in the day.. my dad is not much of a car guy anymore, but when i found it they were coming back i said something to him about it, and i have never seen him so happy in a conversation about cars/motors.. he made it a point to talk about everything he new about them way back when they were 1st around... just my 0.02 cents of a dollar. in the mean time i will be joining you in adding a few bucks into a can berried in the backyard.. i want one!

I'm waiting to see what the real price is truly going to be once they are out. They both require machining, hopefully the BOSS block is better then the R302 and A4 which take a lot more then the DART's...

I hope to get my hands on one for a build so I can make my own educated evaluation, but as of right now the DART stuff is truly hard to beat.

All the articles I've read so far on this block say it will be stronger and cheaper than the r302.

Rick, its funny that you mention about wanting to try a build with the boss block. That is what i was calling you for the other day. While my parts are really only matched to make around 450rwhp with better heads. Everything I read says that is getting close to limit of the stock block. My engine budget will be more than i first thought and if the cost of machining is no more than other aftermaket blocks but the block itself is cheaper thats something I would like to consider.

The new Boss 302 block is not $1,500 but $1,795. and for $2000 u can get a Dart Sportmen from adperformance.com. The SVO R302 block is rated @ 1500fwhp as well as the Dart Sportmen. For $200 difference I would buy a Dart, proven race piece.

It may be $1795 from Ford, but they say it will be available for less from other sources.

I would rather have the Ford Block. DART makes a good block but just look at the boss block. All the extra gussets and things that it has. Just my .02 but I think with Ford loosing billions of dollars, they are gonna have to cut production costs and pushrod power is cheaper then the OHC and DOHC bull**** they have been sinking millions of $$ into. Maby we will get another pushrod Mustang. Which then I would buy. I have had thoughts of buy a 05+ V6 and selling the v6 and tranny and putting a stroker in it.

When is this block actually coming out? I've seen it on T.V. and heard about it forever and they say it will be out this year but, when? I have yet to see it available anywhere.

The Dart block has similar gussets and is plenty thick in all areas, and you can bore the safely over 4.20". Both blocks have similar features but they have quote a few things that are different...
