I currently have an old Holley 650cfm double pumper with mechanical secondaries. I recently did a rebuild but noticed my base plate and throttle body is warped pretty badly. I will try to even it out by sanding on a glass plate but I do need a new carb.

My current setup is as follows:
- flat tappet .500/.500 lift , 224/224 durr Compcam
- Performance products Crosswind intake (dual plain)
- E7 heads (removed thermacular bumps, mild port job)
- KB flat top pistons
- 9.6:1 compression ratio

However this winter, the engine will see the following upgrades:
- Roller cam X303 or something simular (.542/.542, 224/224 durr)
- Aluminum heads, not sure what yet... ARF185's or whatever
- Performance products Hurricane intake (single plain)

So I was thinking a small 570cfm street avanger but I'm not sure if this carb will be good for an engine that will see 5500~6000rpm redline, maybe a 670cfm would be better for the new setup?

But I think I'm leaning towards a speed demon carb, I like the smoothness of it. So with that I was going to go with a 575cfm of this: http://www.barrygrant.com/demon/default.aspx?page=10

I need to buy one next week because my current carb is hardly working and whistles like a SOB!

Well, I just put a 600 cfm double pumper in the classifieds.

http://classifieds.stangnet.com/showproduct.php?product=21578

The smaller 570 and 600 cfm carbs are preferable for throttle response. For a stick car, I might try a dp race carb but the vacuum secondary only for an automatic. I run the 570 avenger myself and I love it. You tap the key and it starts right up with a fury. Idles with a passion for life. Never ever bogs. The avengers and all holleys are just good carbs. I had a 670 avenger and it lacked quite a bit in the idle, starting, smoothness, throttle response department. For such a low redline, go smaller.

Everyone minus one person then

You need to clean ANY carb. The avengers are so well built that most folks forget this and dont clean them regularly.

I usually spray carb cleaner down the snorkels into the fuel bowls then run the car. This cleans it from inside out. Toss some fuel system cleaner in occasionally.

I took my 670 off and it was squeeky clean after almost 2 years. I guess they have good gas in mass.

That 570 will be too small for your future mods. If you're looking for a vaccuum secondary carb then step up to a 670 street avenger (it won't be too big for AFR heads) Remember Vac. secondary carbs act smaller than double pumpers. I would even consider a Speed Demon, or Road Demon.

Well I just bought a new carb, it's a 750cfm Edelbrock. Well it wasn't new but only a couple months old and I got it for dirt cheap. It isn't tuned yet but I can feel the difference. It may be a little much carb for my E7's but it will be okay with the new heads

I sometimes test my "mods" by going up a hill at WOT and check what speed I'm going when I'm in front of a marker.

that carb should be fine with a 351 and AFR heads.
