Based on the entry level intake shootout in 5.0 mustang may issue, I have decided to get a cobra intake.

But I keep finding this new cobra replica that is supposedly made in China.

the specs say it flows 350 hp as opposed to the original 400hp.

Is this the same cobra intake or not? will it give me the same performance as a GT-40, or original cobra?

The whole China Thing bothers me. Has anyone seen or used one of these replica intakes?

Well, seriously not trying to sound like a smart ___. But an intake made in china for an insanely American engine, could not be original. Please for the love of God do not buy this intake.

The Typhoon is made in china or another Asian country, there are plenty of threads with happy people who have them.

Well of course I'm being biased. I own a '93 cobra and don't like to see the intakes that came on those rare cars get built by the chinese.

To his, his own.

Get a grip. It's a piece of aluminum casting. Lots of parts of "American Made" cars individual parts are made overseas. It's a fact of the global economy.

What it fits has no bearing what so ever on anything.

I don't know about the oversees version of the cobra, but I thought that the cobra was rated at a lower hp level than the gt-40, but could be ported to give more power than gt-40. They have the same lower, but the uppoer is the difference in supported hp.

Why contribute to the "global economy" if you can help it

Edelbrock intakes are made in the USA.

It may not matter to you, but if the Communist Chinese decide to take our dollars and build tanks to kill you, me and our offspring it becomes a big deal.

AMEN!

As a working American, I simply worry about the practical effects of sending
all our hard earned money overseas to a competitive, growing economy that could be eating our lunch in a few short years.

I figure that if I buy American when I can, and if enuf people do that instead of buying cheap ripoffs of American designs, then the Americans earning a living making American products hopefully can afford to buy what my company produces. If they can't becuz too many people buy cheap ripoffs and they lose their jobs, I'm more likely to lose mine becuz they can't afford to buy what I produce.

Let's keep American money in America! When you buy foreign, where do you think the profit goes? (And that also goes for foreign brands that are "made" in America.) And that profit is where investments in new products/factories/JOBS comes from! If we send the money overseas, THAT's where those new products/factories/JOBS are going to be, not here
in our country.

Just in case you haven't heard, the State owned COMMUNIST Chinese oil
company just recently put in a huge bid for the 3rd largest AMERICAN oil company, Unocal of CA. Doesn't that worry you? It should! It even worries that pack of morons in Congress!

Extend your fingers, bend over, reach up, grab your ears, and PULL YOUR HEAD OUT!!

You've got that right.

We (as a country) have to stop sending work over to China. The owners of big business like China because manual labor is like $5 a week. The consumer gets slightly lower prices and the company makes millions off of the margin. It is an extremely short sighted practice that is going to severly hurt our economy if we don't start keeping work in the U.S.A. Stock brokers don't "make" money, they just pass it around. Manufacturing is what transforms raw materials in to consumable products that actually "makes" money.

If you want to debate the economy, move this to talk.

If you want an opinion of the China made Cobra replica....it is a piece of crap when compared to the original. Mine has cast flashing and I had to drill out a couple of the bolt holes to even install the damn thing.

It works well, but I am sure if I take the time to clean it up with a Dremel, it will flow a lot better. If you are going to buy a knock-off intake, get the Professional Products Typhoon intake. FordMuscle.com did a test - they cleaned it up with Dremel prior to install and it did just as nice as the Edelbrock.

Otherwise, spend the money and get an intake that will work out of the box without any time under a cutter/grinder.

You can fight the inevitable or you can adapt. I'd recommend adapting.

The average American worker is over-paid and has a feeling of entitlement that is not deserved. America isn't the greatest country on the planet because it stays stooped in the past and acts as a isolationist Nation.

The USA was for the most part an isolationist nation prior to the World Wars. We became what we are as a result of those wars. Reverting will not solve anything. We have to adapt to the changing socio-economical landscape that is, like it or not, becoming global in scale, just as it became statewide and then national in scale within our borders over the last 50 or so years.

Sorry for the :OT: but I just want to finish saying this.

I understand that times are changing and people have to adapt to it, but I don't think we should be selling out our contry in the process. Part of what I was saying is that you can't have a white collar country. It isn't sustainable. If anyone wants to create a thread in talk for this, I will gladly participate.

Tjm73: So we should apt for the knock-off to prove were "with the times"? Adapt, OK fine, but I'm not bowing down to other countries. So we should just adapt, hmmmm, sounds like what so many were saying 50+ years ago about communisim, well we didn't, and look at them now.

So we should just accept that we arn't that great so we should just go ahead and "adapt" the the Chinese. How about adapting to a Chinese bullet? I hope the people who are buying Chinese goods and all gittey because they saved a buck or two are the first one's shot on the battlefield.

I do not belive China will be communist for much longer. They are a duel economic system, Hong Kong and a few other cities are capitolist. They have outgrown communisim, and they know it, but don't want the sudden change like Russia. It isnt' true comunisim, you can make your own money and such, and personal property does exist, but limited, but that's leaps and bounds from where they were. Orientals are pretty smart, hopefully we all keep out heads out our butts and we can learn to benifit off each other. We dont' want to be like some groupes, like the Arabs and Africans, which will never be able to get out of 3rd world status. Most arabs are dirt poor, only a few are rich, but a vast majority are so stupid that they don't see that, instead they belive were "taking" from them.

"I hope the people who are buying Chinese goods and all gittey because they saved a buck or two are the first one's shot on the battlefield."

Take a close look at the stuff you own and find out where it comes from, might be in for a real bad surprise! Shoes, clothing, electrical components, etc. are mostly manufactured outside the US. You're all missing the big picture, right now the US is on the bottom of list of exports compared to other countries. Not because our stuff is crap but because most countries can't afford it. Doing business with foreign countries has a long term benefit to the US in that as we help strengthen their economy they'll be able to purchase more of US products.

As for jobs being sent over seas have you realized we've sent our low paying jobs over there and kept the higher paying ones here plus sending these (s$%&) jobs overseas has allowed us to come up with new better paying ones for us. If you want to blame anyone for the US going down hill start here with the unions and healthcare industries (inlcuding the pharma's), they are hurting us more than anything else.

What I mean is when there is a choice to either get the real thing made here and then the bootleg version for a little less, I would always take american. I understand what your saying.

The drug companies problem is that other country's goverments put a cap on what they can charge on the drug, while we don't. So to pay for the reaserch and development they charge us more. I say, if the other countries won't pay, then they should just suffer without the medicine. They sould be able to keep thier forumulas top secret so they don't get copied by forien bootleggers. That way even though the forien bootleggers will still manage to copy, they won't do it quite right, and those who bought from them will feel the side effects. I knew someone that worked for a drug company reaserch team. She said that with the right equipment, you could find out the ingredients of almost any medicine, but getting the balance just right, that is near impossible, and with some medicines, a little off balance means fatal results. Trust me, those other countries will lift thier caps when say a few thousand or maby a million die from a bootlegged drug being made wrong.

It's a dog eat dog world out there, so are we just going to learn to bite harder or get used to being bitten? Me, I'm going to rip it out until I die.
