New daily driver, any thoughts…

CTS-V's are cheap now. buy one!

These are cheap?
Why not get the V-6 CTS model that will get better gas mileage and won't have those big tires? It might even be a softer comfortable ride since it won't have all of those sport suspension options.:)

No one is going to suggest the '06 up Civic?

GF and I got an '06 Si Coupe for her DD and love it. Been great for reliability and quicker than she needs. It does suffer a "notchy" 3rd when cold but hasn't gotten any worse, I believe they have an improved synchro on '09 up 6 spd cars.

I'd buy the car again hands down.

Also had an '07 Ford Fusion AWD as a company vehicle for a couple of months and loved it. Thought the car was one of the best sedans Ford has made in a long time. It was solid, quick and impressive on gas for a V6.

I LOOOOOOOOVE my Fusion. It pulls great for a 4 banger, and gets 33ish mpg on the highway. Consumer Reports just rated it as the most reliable car in its class, too.

Why??

Who cares if gas goes to $6/gallon...i would still take a V over a V6 caddy anyday.

We drive Mustangs.....any car would have a softer ride that any of us would gladly enjoy

Haha, no kidding. If you're looking for a soft ride with a small motor and downgraded suspension components I think you're in the wrong place. :p

I have a an 04 WRX wagon and I really like it. As long as you drive it as you would a daily driver and not beat on it, they are great. It handles pretty good, decent acceleration, carries enough stuff and I get 28mpg if I am easy on it.

A buddy of mine has an older miata and it is a fun car to drive but we are thinking something with four doors. Thats why the xb looks like the front runner for the DD now. another friend has a Element, im going to look his over before we do anything.

A Mazada Miata is a cute car to commute in.:D
True, mabey he can get his nails done and wear a matching dress :nice:
And sure, the Miata makes perfect sense as a DD cause its so spacious and rides so smooth. AND you can fit most of your briefcase in the trunk :rlaugh:

Do you work for Mazda or something?

And the base CTS just dosent look right IMO. The wheel wells and sides are too large for the tiny wheels they have.

A CTS-V on the other hand I would gladly drive :nice:
I have a 97 Mark VIII as my DD and if ya gotta spend so much time in a car as I do then it makes sense to have something comfertable and quiet in exchange for a couple MPG

+1

I'll be very interested to see what the new CTS-V will go for in a few years. Now that its available with an automatic that thing will make a killer DD. The new regular CTS is pretty damn sweet too, and imo is actually better looking than the '09 V.

:nice:Yes automatic with a Corvette engine in it with a supercharger.
Do you think the V-6 model will have a more comfortable ride on long trips and beat up roads than a CTS-V?

Sure the non V will have:

Softer suspension
Weaker brakes
Less power (250+ HP less)
Better fuel economy
No Recaro option seats

It would make a fine DD but a rather expensive one with little fun factor.

It goes back to sacrificing luxury for performance. Can't have everything. At least for a daily driver the V-6 will get better mileage and a softer ride over those bumpy roads.

Not necessarily.

My previous daily driver was a V8 Mustang GT

My new daily driver is a 3.5L V6 Infiniti.

My commute is strictly highway, and after 3 weeks, i can say I got BETTER fuel economy in my V8 Mustang on the highway. Cruising at 75-80MPH was at ~1900RPM, in the G35, it's ~3000 RPM! Plus i need to run premium in the G35 while i ran 87 octane in the Mustang. I'm getting around 23-23 with the G35 and i routinely got 25-26 with the Mustang all highway with 87 octane.

So i went from V8 to V6 and it's costing me more to drive

Not like a give a damn, the G35 is much more confortable to drive :)

damn you and your 4 mile commute... I have an 80 mile round trip from Daly City to Fremont... with bridge toll. I really can't complain though... I have a stable job...
