new Drone free Dynomax Muffler?

Very true. But the FlowMaster 2 chamber and Deltaflow are only marginally better than the stock mufflers for performance. I had 2 chambers on my Mustangs for years, and I just outgrew them. I got sick of the drone. If you have a big stroker motor like mine with FlowMasters, the noise is almost intolerable.

If you want to get a quieter sound, then you are going to want a straight through Muffler. Either a Magnaflow, or an Ultraflow is about as quiet as you're going to get. Other than that, I don't know. Putting catalytic converters on the car helps a lot.

Borla XL's are pretty quiet.

I've got Magnaflow's on my Cougar, and although they're not anywhere near as loud as the Flowmasters, I still get a noticable amount of drone at highway speeds.

Dynomax Turbo's are about the quietest I've heard before these new models came out.

Good point. There is such a large range of applications...its hard to label 1 muffler as "the best". A great sounding muffler on a <300rwhp setup...like a 2 chamber flowmaster...is going to be extremely loud once you add 100-200rwhp.

For the average combination....any aftermarket muffler will be fine and wont make a noticeable difference unless you are powered by a turbo. Otherwise...weather will make a bigger difference. 5hp is not enough for me to forgo "sound" and choose power. An in most applications...its not a 5hp or 5ft lbs tq difference. The ever so popular muffler shoot out shows this...

1.Flowtech Warlock (open) 374.2 hp/ 333.1 tq

3.Hooker Maxflow 373.5 hp/ 333 tq

10.Spintech 371.6 hp/ 332.2 tq
11.Edelbrock Performer RPM 370.9 hp / 331.3 tq
12.Borla XR1 370 hp/ 334 tq
13.Flowtech Terminator 369.5 hp / 331.3 tq
14.Dynomax Ultra Flo 369.4 / 333.2 tq

16.Flowtech Warlock 366.3 hp / 325.3 tq
17.No muffs 365.2 hp / 330.1 tq

Turbo applications....a switch from flowmaster to dynomax results in 30-40hp. ( will add high HP non turbo set ups will see a larger difference than what this chart shows...but i dont have any data for that.)

Bassani will be my next muffler purchase.

Damn, 17 dyno runs to test mufflers? Surprised by the 10th run, that car wasn't making 50 less HP because the motor was worn out. LOL. j/k I think my 96 Cobra had 10-12 passes before the tune was perfect.

I agree with Nate...Flowmasters have got to be the best sound on a 5.0L. Drone...yes...but sound...you just can't beat it.
