I was in Detroit a week and a half ago. My univeristy was competing in the Formula SAE competition at the Silverdome. Anyway, I dont know if anyone has posted some actual pics of this car yet, so I'd thought I show some. I have tons of pictures, inside and out, and even a video if anyone is interested...sorry I have dialup, but just email me or I'll just keep putting picks up if anybody wants to see them.

Hey, I was there too, with Oregon State. Frankly I wasn't impressed by the overall look of the car up close, but when you are around FSAE cars it is hard to be impressed by production cars. The GT looked great for a production car though. That video wouldn't happen to be of the drive through the Endurance course would it?

Yes, the video is the car going through the endurance course....although the car doesnt really get to any great speed...maybe 40. I was up there with a first year team University of Alabama....hmm we pretty much learned a lot for next year...our car did none of the dynamic events, but passed all tech inspections.
If you want the video...maybe i can upload it at school where the connection is much faster.

aww man, i was considering joining the sae team at my school. if there's chances of seeing cars like the gt, i'm totally joining next semester.
i'd really like to get more hands on stuff with cars, a bit less calculus and differential equations.
I can't wait for the day i first see a ford gt in person...

Well believe me, if your University has a formula team....its almost ALL hands own. The last 2 months before the competition, I spent 12+ hrs PER DAY working on our car....and being our first year we were a pretty mediocre car. Its a lot of fun and you get to meet a lot of people in the industy(JOBS!). Yes there is differential equations and calculus, there is even some classes harder than that(Dynamics at UA has a 54% repeat rate!). I would say go for it, and you will learn a ton.

I was on the team at Lehigh. We were sponsored out the ACE. Ford, GM, Penske (suspension), Honda (engine). It was crazy how much it cost to put one of those little things together. And even crazier how fast they go, (without the restrictor of course).

Its funny how there are quite a few people on here that went to that competition as students. Lehigh, did you ever get to race the endurance...I didnt get to see your 301 lb car in action....I was too busy trying to fix ours...we didnt race at all.

And the interior....what might I add looks a lot more impressive in person. Notice the carbon fiber seat backs and the little red button on the dash...well that says "Start Engine"

Yea, yall's paddock was close to ours. I talked to your advisor about your car...it was sweet. Also very sweet was that hot blonde in the short mini-skirt on your team....she looked hot EVERYDAY she was there.

Does anyone recognize those valve covers as being off of a different Ford car? When I looked at them the little tag said 4.6L. I just figured it was a parts bin piece but I don't recognize the valve covers.

A friend of mine at work has a son-in-law with a brother-in-law who lives in England who ordered a GT this summer. He hopes to get it this fall and ship it to England where he lives. It will be at her Son-in-law's for a while until he can arrange shipment. When it comes in I'm grabbing the camera and shooting as many pics as I can. I may even get a chance to drive it - that would be pretty cool!
