New GT500 Screwed!

I guess it was Monday evening in Cecil County MD. You could here the engine and tires cranking it out from a distance. There was a small croud of people in a parking lot checking out this new black/white striped, temporary tagged GT500 just burning the tires up doing figure 8's. I assume the kid was at best in his early twenties putting on quite a show. Suddenly, the entire passenger side of the car (front to rear) just smacked into the side of a dumpster and literally bounced off of it. The smoke was still thick in the air, the small croud went silent and the poor boy behind the wheel just sat there resting his head on the steering wheel. Multiple dropped jaws just a hanging! Tow truck came for the car and that's the story. Don't know who it was or anything other than what's on this thread. I only hope it wasn't DAD'S CAR!

I have serious difficulty feeling sorry for that brand of idiocy. There should be a law that he now has to drive a an unmodified honda with one cylinder disconnected for 365 calendar days before being permitted to drive anything with more power.

Kids cannot handle that kind of power...let alone appreciate it, unless they're parents have taught them how too. Sad story of another wasted car.

yeah just like this morning, at Crystal Cove. A brand New Shelby Cobra whatever you want to call them now didnteven have plates on it. The guy who owned it did not know anything about cars. While i was looking at the 5.4L he clicked the key fob three times setting off the horn (twice) he couldnt get the hood open. and when he did he hit the panic button. then when leaving i do believe he stalled it. and he was TERRRIBLE on the gas... He just got it too look cool. what a shame.

Yeah this jackass could have stayed away from the dumpster and buildings in the area because he had a huge parking lot to play in.

Well I'm 19 with a supercharged 4.6 and I dont wreck my damn car. This kid was just a showboating idiot that doesn't deserve a GT500. Like half the people that get em. That's complete bull and I'll tell you who I feel sorry for. I feel sorry for the damn GT500 being in the hands of that idiot. **** let me buy a GT500 at sticker and guaranteed it'd be the cleanest best running Shelby on the road for years to come. I had a damn rock chip on my fender and I almost cried with just my GT.

If I could afford one (I'm 53) it would be treated with respect, driven only at the speed limit, and continue to look like new until I die.
It is a work of art and should be treated as such and driven on occasion.

The car is designed to be run hard, but there is a time and a place for that. You can use the power without tearing it up. This kid's just lucky he didn't run somebody over.

No parent in their right mind should ever give a kid a Shelby to drive- EVER! I had to drive a 1995 Ford Ranger, until i was a semester into college, before grandparents even though about giving me 05 GT. Kids that don't understand the amount of power that is inside of a GT or a Shelby, aren't only a danger to themselves and the car; they're a danger to the people around them. I have heard way to many stories of kids getting a GT and wrecking them within the first few weeks they have them. It's a complete waste of an incredibly good looking and awesome running car.

Time and Place is correct, problem I see is the engine and trans were not even anywhere near break in period.

ROFL! oh man, with the 95 ranger you gained a tad of respect...but grandparents...after ONE whole semester! Poor you.

I've driven a 1987 longbed 2wd and then a 1994 longbed 2wd (with ext cab!) toyota truck for the last 12 years. Yea, these are NOT the toyota toys you see running around, these are grandfather trucks on passenger car tires. My one Mustang? I worked my a$$ off to perform and pay for a complete restoration on a 1967 coupe (absolutely trashed, got from fatherinlaw free! woo!). That took me over 3 years of misery, but man does it give you respect now.

Would I like an 05 GT? Heck yes. Can I afford one? No. Oh yea, both the wife and I have Masters Degrees but we live in the "real world" under George W Bush. So when will you be trading in grandmother's GT? I MAY be able to afford it then!

Amen. I'm 53 and have a master's degree. I also can't afford a new GT at present. My grandfather also won't be buying me one. I was almost 30 before I had a new car and I bought it myself.

I know what you mean. I am a colonel in the Marine Corps, have three combat tours under my belt, and have finally ordered a new 07 GT. It is the first car that I have ever ordered and the second new vehicle that I have purchased for myself. The last was a new Nissan Pickup when I returned from Desert Storm....

as far as the guy getting a car from grandmama - to be fair - tell me ANY ONE OF YOU would have turned down a gift like that. young kid going to college, wealthy grandparent handing you the keys to the car of your dreams...


on the other hand, dude - there area lot of hard working people who ate S**t for a living to scrape together the money for the down payment on their cars, I wouldn't go around bragging about getting it as a gift.

my first car was a 1980 mercury capri hatchback that I worked a year and a half to scrape up enough money to buy it in 1989 for $1200 and spent the next 2 years keeping it running with prayers and bubblegum. for those of you who remember - it was really similar to the stangs of that era, and it had the tubbed out fenders and a vented hood.
I always thought they should have tubbed out the fenders on the stangs....
