So my friend, Renee, is a mechanic at a Toyota dealership that has his own little 2 bay garage to work on others' cars and he flips cars on the side. I stopped by the dealership to catch up with him yesterday, and he told me that he'd bought another fox body for $1,500, had it towed to the dealership, and that it was outside. Not expecting much, I went out to look at it, and found this.
Quick rundown of the mods I've found so fars:
- '91 VIN
Exterior:
- Cobra R hood
- Racing stripes (worth 100 hp)
- Can anyone ID the wheels? They're Fords from that era, but not stock to a Fox
- 2nd set of wheels Black Ponies w/ chrome center caps ala the old SSP fox bodies from the '80s-'90s w/ New Bridgestone RE11 Summer performance tires
Engine:
- SVO aluminum heads; I presume they are GT40X heads.
- Edelbrock Performer intake
- mild cam, maybe an E303
- BBK Shorty headers
- Granatelli plastic 75mm MAF tuned to 19 lbs injectors
- 65mm TB spacer (65mm TB?)
- Engine bay *hot* air filter (not a big fan) (has since been replaced with the stock CAI & K&N flat panel air filter
- Flowmaster 50-series mufflers to me & still has cats (since replaced by properly sized 40-series flowmasters & replaced tail pipes 2.5")
Drivetrain
- Aftermarket shifter, maybe a Tri-ax
- Aluminum Driveshaft
Suspension Chassis
- Adjustable rear shocks, aftermarket front shocks
- Roll bar (bolted to floor pan)
- Welded subframe connectors
- Gripp Strut tower brace
- Gripp caster/camber plates
- Drilled front rotors
- Removed quad shocks, but stock LCAs, didn't get under car to check uppers. (going to replace quads)
Electrical
- Adjustable ignition limiter box
- aftermarket coil
Interior:
- Cleanish black interior
- Aftermarket seats 5-pt harness ready (but stock seat belts...hmmm)
- Stereo head unit with USB port + my ipod

The last owner told Renee that it needed race gas, but I'm extremely skeptical of the claim, because it's a pretty mundane mild combo, it still has 19# injectors, and I believe he was just giving a BS excuse for why the car lean popped horrendously, which it did over half throttle on the way home. I diagnosed that problem as the wrong spark plugs. It has Motorcraft AFS 42C plugs that have fewer threads that don't project the tip far enough into the head. So, I picked up some Autolite 3924s for $18, installed, checked timing (9-10*) and took it for a spin. Spin it did, all over the place! Though the tachometer is off, it's pretty clear it still has stock gears, but 1st gear hazes the tires on command.
My best friend's kid told him that he wanted a fox body when he was old enough to drive, and I"m going to recommend this one to him. Renee said he'd flip it to him for $2,500. I think it's still a pretty damn good deal. It just needs a little TLC on the driver's side roof latch, and the back window, and otherwise a nice detailing, especially in the engine bay. I think this is a $6,500 car after I clean it up and make everything run right again, with lack of A/C holding back the value.
