Hello, I have a slight problem with my 2001 v6 3.8. When the engine has warmed up and only when it is in drive does it make a ticking sound from seems like the bottom of the engine next to the crank pulley. It does not happen in neutral or park only when in drive and get the RPMS up to about 1,000. Any ideas? I can post a video if need be. She's been my baby only 66,000 miles on it as a 2001 and I hope this isn't her demise.

You might get a better response if you post this in the V6 Tech forum here.

My guess would be something with the trans. Could be something as simple as a loose shield. I'd put it up on jack stands. Get under it with someone putting it in drive to pinpoint where its coming from

Thank you for your response and input. That's my next step. Would a cracked flywheel or flexplate cause this issue? Just now got into fixing cars and not sure what would cause this. If it was engine related I would think it would do it all the time and not only after it heats up and only in drive or reverse.

Sometimes it does it, sometimes it does not. When it does do it sounds like a constant tick, tick, tick, tick, which seems to increase with speed. If I put a video of the noise on YouTube and posted the link here would it help?

Could even be an exhaust tick. Those engines are known for exhaust manifolds cracking. Had to replace both of mine.
