hey everyone, im new here, and to the pony world. ive owned imports my whole life... well supras to be specific.. decided id try my hand at a 5.0.. so i picked up a 95 5.0 5spd with some work done to it.. nothing motor wise but lots of driveability mods. the car has 140K miles on it.. the int is mint.. black leather with black leather racing seats. the cars laser red, and could use a paint job( one of these days) and im looking to do some engine work.. searching around mags and ebay and the fourms here ive seen and learned alot but still had some questions. I want to do a 347 stroker.. a mild cam, heads, etc. i was wondering what combo would be the best for na HP with maybe some nitrious.. theres alota parts out there and not really sure which brands.. or what works with what.. like some heads require diffrent pistons? i guess all im really looking for is what is the best 347 stroker kit for the money and what are the best heads, cam that would work with it.. and is there any supporting mods id need like bigger injectors and MAF intake etc.. anyway any information would be much appreciated. thanks.:SNSign:

A lot of cobra guys want the live axle and will swap you if you want.....

I would start by looking at the Member combos section here. It is a sticky at the top of the forums, just to get and idea on what combos are doing. There is also some head and intake flow charts in the other stickys as well.

Welcome :nice:

Very general parts list you will need to do it right:
-Stroker kit consisting of new pistons, rods, and a crank
-GOOD flowing heads
-GOOD flowing intake manifold
-larger throttle body
-larger MAF
-larger injectors (stock are 19lb, you'll need at least 30lb/hr injectors)
-larger fuel pump
-a more agressive cam than stock
-better flowing exhaust consisting of headers (long tubes are your best bet if emissions isn't a concern), an H or X pipe, and a new cat-back exhaust
-tuning devise for the EEC
-different rear end gear ratio

That's a VERY general list, and there are a lot of little things like engine block machine work, bearings, gaskets, bolts, etc. Basically you will replace EVERYTHING but the block.

What are your goals for the car? Is it going to be a street only car, a street/strip, an autocrosser, etc? The answers will dictate what parts you select.
Welcome to the site!

hey everyone. yea i really like the IRS, and also the 99 exhaust on the car looks much more bad ass also. Ive built plenty of motors, and know whats involved with that. the only thing im confused about really is the cam and heads thing. some heads say they require diffrent pistons, which i take it that means some heads need non flat top pistons because of valve position. and the other thing is the diffrent kind of cams, are some cams direct bolt on plug and play and some require diffrent rods, heads, springs etc? every motor ive ever built has been for a supra.. ask me anything about a 1jz, 2jz 7m i could tell you but im still learning this whole mustang thing :P. the cars going to be mostly a weekend warrior.. i have my audi for the week days and the dates, and just crusing :P. thanks for the info. oh yeah and also, the time frame doesnt matter :)

With the stroker kit, you will have aftermarket pistons anyway, but the reason you are reading this is that many aftermarket heads have larger than stock valves. These larger valves have a wider diameter than the stock valve reliefs cut into the stock pistons, and this causes a clearance issue, especially when a hotter than stock cam is used. It doesn't matter if they are flat tops or not, its mainly the depth and width of the valve relief in the piston. When it comes to cams, most off the shelf will work with mild spring pressures, but the wilder you get may require you to run special valve springs, etc. Rods, and heads are not a real concideration, other than the rod's effect on piston speed which will change some of the designs of the cam to make the most of it. Hope that helps.

Any pics of your supra and Audi?

no pics of the mustang yet... tomorrow :)

also you were saying most cams are drop in with stock springs? or "mild springs? and if you were to get new springs and retainers you could pretty much use any cam? defently alot diffrent than a inline 6 haha but parts are much cheaper.. which is good :)
