Hi! This is my first post here and I'm curious about what can be done to a 2.3L N/A in terms of exhaust. Also, the previous owner of my stang replaced the broken stock radiator with one from a "v8"! Would this have any affect on power? Just curious. Thanks!

Howdy.

Well, there's a few things you can do with the exhaust...what are you looking for, a cat back, full exhaust?

As far as the radiator question....umm, no. A radiator has absolutely nothing to do with power production (well, except for the fact that too small of a radiator on a high-hp engine will cause it to overheat, but you know what i mean)

You need to get a 2.3 Turbo in that thing to back up the looks...

There are plenty of options for the exhaust. As Red LX said, it depends on what you want. The simplest would be to throw in your choice of muffler and tailpipe as it is bolt on. However, you could get a long tube header, run a y-pipe for duals, etc.
What are you looking to do? And post some pictures of you car if you can.

I would really like duals. How complicated is it to do something like this and about how much do you think something like this would cost? Also, what is you guys' first choice of muffler for a stang like mine? Thanks, and here's some pics!

Damn, get some 10-holes on that thing or somethin. Polycasts suck.

Anyway...again, are you planning to take it to a muffler shop or what? Cost depends on a lot of factors.

Flowmaster 40 series sound pretty good. I have a couple sound clips of mine but I can't upload them to photobucket cuz it only lets you do video clips.

I know, I hate those wheels just as much as anybody else! These are just on for the winter. I'm planning on some chrome '95 cobras this spring. It's just a matter of money and I'm almost there!

I probablly will take it to a shop for exhaust an just wanted some ideas. Thanks

There is another thread in the tech section concerning this very topic; check that out for exhaust ideas. Your car looks great, love that blue! Wheels are a must come spring, I can't wait to put my Ponies back on!
Here is a clip of my exhaust, I need a better one but this gives you an idea. It's got a long tube header, Magnaflow cat, custom intermediate piping, Dynomax Super Turbo muffler (all 2.5").

EDIT: I have the clip of Red LX's exhaust in my e-mail, PM me your e-mail address and I'll forward it to you.

Once it gets warmer, I plan on replacing the cast exhaust manifold with the steel ranger header, install a new downpipe and replace the horrible stock converter with a high-flow converter. Then leave the muffler and tailpipe stock. Oh, this is on the 86. The 88 will stay stock.

Welcome to Stangnet. We are all happy to help with your questions.

I'm old school and a little older than most on here ( past the mid 30's mark ), butI just use the stock exhaust with a turbo muffler. It gives it just a mild throaty sound while idling. Not sure on when its going down the road, since no one else is allowed to drive it.
