ok i was just surfing the k&n aircharger site and found something a bit dissapointing.. "Street Legal in Most States (not street legal in CA)". ok so what i basically want to know is: does this apply to more manufacturers of intakes or did K&N just make the fine print alittle bit bigger.. and if it is the only manufacturer that is not street legal in Cali then who the heck would know? what would be the consequences of using it in CA? i was looking for a intake without a tune and should i just shop around or just keep it stock in CA because of the god D*(&@ emissions requirements?

K&N must've made the print a little bigger. I don't think there's a non-stock CAI that is CA smog legal. Consequences of using it in CA are that you'll have to spend 10 minutes putting the stocker back on and going back to the stock tune in 2011 for the smog test.

Honestly, when's the last time a cop asked you to open your hood so he could check for CARB decals on your engine parts? (knocks wood)

as hard as ca police are.... it wont be long.. a holes towed my other car because the city decided to have a pariad there and gave less then 24hours warning.. I was at a friends house all night and came back and my car was gone in front of my house?? even after getting it back the Fing cops ALSO put a 30 buck no parking in temp zone?? nice...

if you look closer on the k&n site, it says that the 63-series are the rush to the market intakes so they can get in on the market shares. the 57-series are the carb certified intakes. they currently dont have the 57 series available.

i am sure it will pass smog, they probably just didn't spend the millions in testing to get the C.A.R.B. cetification. If and i mean "IF" a smog shop noticed that you changed the intake and it does not have a C.A.R.B. sticker they can fail you, but from my experiance you will not run into that problem.

this is quoted from the dmv web site in california
"Owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification."

so run what ever you want you have 6 years before you have to smog it, you better believe i will not be smog legal at least till 2010 :)
