OK i'll try to keep this short as i don't have much time at the moment...

In the late summer my car started pinging (bad) under boost after the car was warm. I took it to my tuner and he pulled timing but it was still pinging. Fuel and heat were not problems. He didn't know what to do so I take it to JD's in PA to have them look at it. They tell me timing is all over the place and think my ECU is bad and i need more fuel. So I get a new ECU, in line fuel pump, and finally find that an accel AFPR will fit with the KB with a little bit of grinding of the side of the s/c inlet. They get everything installed and tuned and take it out and it's pinging! Take it out again and it is fine, take it out again and it is pinging. Come back, take off my msd 6A and it runs fine! the msd was advancing my timing to 20-30 degrees base  :nono: :notnice:
So now it is finally running fine with no msd and a new tune. I'm glad i can say she's much smoother and the idle is very good with the new tune so i'm happy about that. Plus higher numbers are always good! Before she made about 325/350 on a 90+ degree day. New numbers are 378.4 torque and 330.3 hp so not bad. This is with a 7 pound pulley that puts out from 6-8 #'s depending on the temp. These new numbers were also with the motor and s/c hot. Timing is base 10 and total 20. a/f is about 11.5 across, the hump at 4.4 on the graph was flattened.
F msd!

I was just about to ask you what you thought of JDs. I went there in the summer of 05 with my car. They did a good job tuning, but I don't think they're very good at diagnosing problems. They're also pretty expensive. I'll be going back this winter for a retune, but I don't think I'll give them any work other than tuning.

BTW where are u from? JDs is only about 10 minutes from my house

i'm sure you are really happy about that. good numbers. you have to love that torque curve!

it must feel like an absolute beast. :nice:

but those dynos look weird. the torque and hp curves are supposed to be equal at 5252 rpm.

what's the deal?

They used different scales for hp & tq :(

Some day I hope to learn why they do that

where's JDs? If you guys feel its a good place to get a tune done, maybe i might see what they can do.

good numbers by the way.
question: why not leave the MSD on and just adjust the tune accordingly to the increased timing? seems to me that just about every S/C kit comes with the MSD 6series box then it must be for a good reason.

thanks for all the comments and questions. i'll try to answer everyone's questions in one post in order.

As far as diagnosing, i got a few things i didn't need but in the end they fixed the problem and my first shop couldn't. I think the tuning joe does is awesome.
I'm from south jersey, about 45 minutes from JD's and 15 minutes from the Atco Racetack

Where is your FP set at now having it adjustable and was your car tuned with the act sensor in the intake?

my fuel pressure is now at 50 psi and my act is not in the intake

Yea cause My car goes there tomorrow night.. They are only 3 mins from my house.. what did you think?

so far it seems like they did a great job. the tune is much smoother than my first one and it idles better and picked up power, although the outside temperature did have something to do with that

grady is right, different scales. you can see the different starting points on the sides

Because the msd box is screwed up internally. it is not supposed to effect my timing at all and it was advancing my base timing to 20 and 30 degrees despite the tune. there is no way to tune around that. it's running fine and not missing anywhere without it so i said screw it and take it out. it has to be sent back to msd anyway to be fixed. if i upgrade power wise in the future i will get another ignition, probably not msd though!
