New Motor Mounts - should I use Poly or Rubber???

I am trying to eliminate some clutch chatter that has shown up since my engine rebuild, new clutch, flywheel resurfacing, etc. and have read that sometimes a torque strap and new motor mounts make a huge difference.
I did not change my mounts when I had the engine out since they looked good and am thinking I should try that before I tear the transmission out.

Can anyone give me their opinion on poly vs. rubber mounts?

I assume I only need to replace the part with the rubber (part number 6038-7 or 7P at NPD) and not the frame mount. Is this correct?

Also, how hard a job is it to change the mounts on a '69? Can I get to the mounts fairly easily with the engine in the car? I have an engine hoist I can use to lift the engine while I do the job...

THANKS!

I went ahead and bought the complete 3 piece Prothane set from Summit.

I don't think it will solve the chatter problem but it couldn't hurt.

Thanks.

it depends on what is causing the chatter, but if you didnt change the mounts out earlier, then it is very possible that you mounts need changing now. i would go with the urethane mounts, engine and tranny. as far as changing the mounts with the engine in the car, it isnt a bad job. i did a similar mount change in a 70 falcon, and it would have gone much easier if i had left things loose until everything was inplace(live and learn).

I changed out my motor mounts last night and found that the left side mount was 3/4 of the way separated from the rubber. It was not a total failure but was very close.

I forgot to remove the fan shroud when I lifted the engine so I have a bent flex fan to deal with before I take the car for a spin.
